“Value Package” of Black Desert – a hidden subscription model?
Currently, there is a major drama in the forum and on Reddit about Black Desert Online, as the game added a new item to the shop with the patch on July 20. The “Value Package” grants buyers certain benefits in the game for 30 days, making life in the game world easier.
While some of these bonuses improve the “Quality of Life”, such as additional inventory slots, a higher weight limit, and bonus EXP, players are particularly upset about one thing. Those who have an active “Value Package” also receive 30% discount on the tax when selling items in the auction house – instead of 65% of the “original price”, they then receive 84.5%.
For many players, it is immediately clear: the package is a step towards Pay2Win. Because those who pay receive significantly more silver in their virtual wallet. Additionally, with the “Value Package”, players can now also access nodes from a distance without having to travel there – a clear comfort advantage.
Moreover, the customization of the character through colors or the “Beauty Shop” is possible as a sort of “flat rate”.
However, the worst part is that this now represents a form of subscription for many, as the Value Package must be renewed after 30 days if one wants to continue enjoying the benefits.
Mein-MMO says: It is highly doubtful that Black Desert is doing itself a favor with this decision. Fans are already in a tense mood after various debates, such as about the camouflage outfit. Cynically, some players comment under the announcement: “Now there’s the Trinity in Black Desert. Purchase price, in-game shop, and subscription.” Furthermore, many players fear that returning players will be even more discouraged and may never set foot in the game world again.
