The MMORPG Black Desert has no maximum level, but the grind increases with each level. The first player has now reached level 67. However, it took him more than 26 months for the final level-up.
What is special about the leveling system? Up to level 62, you level up in Black Desert quite reasonably and also gain access to useful upgrades like new abilities.
However, starting at level 63, the required experience points double, and you only receive small stat adjustments to health and mana as a reward. Therefore, there is only a tiny fraction of players who continue to grind to set a new level record.
Who set the latest record? American player Breeya has managed to become the first player in the world to reach level 67. But the effort required was enormous.
Because Breeya was also the first Western player to reach level 66. Only one player from Taiwan was faster at that time. However, he reached this last milestone on January 12, 2020.
26 months of grind for an extra level – Was everything legal?
How did he manage to level up? The most lucrative method for leveling up is said to be the PvP mode “Red Battlefield”. There, you earn about 0.002 to 0.003% experience per match at level 66.
The special thing about this way of leveling is that it cannot be boosted, but still brings the most experience points at this level.
The legal way would be to actively play tens of thousands of rounds in PvP and send your character to training dummies while sleeping and working. There, the character can then grind XP for gold costs AFK, which, however, brings ridiculously little at level 66.
What are players saying on reddit? On reddit, Breeya’s success is heavily debated. Many accuse him of only playing part of the PvP matches himself. Otherwise, he is said to use a bot, simply stand AFK in matches, or share his account with other players.
Because in some matches, he would actively chat, while in others, he just “stands in the woods and hides”.
However, there is no real evidence for these accusations. Some say on reddit that the developers would probably ban such a well-known player if he were obviously cheating.
What’s next for the player? It is currently unclear whether Breeya will continue grinding towards level 68 or take a break from the adventure for now. Since the experience points double each time, this achievement may not be reached until 2026.
The only alternative would be to introduce new leveling mechanics. After all, grinding in PvE with active buffs used to be more lucrative than PvP.
