The fantasy MMORPG Black Desert is set to release in the West. The Community Manager discusses the West release and answers the question of whether the game will also be available in German.
MMO Culture spoke with “Oli”, the Community Manager of Black Desert in the West, about localization. The Western headquarters has been established by Daum in Europe, as it is easier for Korean games to thrive in Europe than in North America. Currently, “Daum Europe” is solely focused on Black Desert. That is their only project. Once that is secured, they can also look into other projects, such as the localization of mobile games.
At the moment, it is unclear whether the game will be released in languages other than English. They would like to, exploring the possibilities. The same goes for voice-over in the game. English is already confirmed, but whether more languages will be available is still unknown as they are exploring their options. The localization of Black Desert has already begun in Korea, was then continued in-house by Daum Europe, and is now collaborating with agencies to speed up the process.
What is already certain: There will be servers for both continents. That is clear. Oli did not want to commit to specific dates.
