In Korea, the plans for the fantasy MMORPG Black Desert were presented in 2016.
For us, Black Desert has only been on the market for a month, while in Korea it has been available for a bit longer, and the crowd is demanding new content.
New Regions in Summer and Winter
They are now showcased in South Korea: They are building!
The highlight of the presentation given by Pearl Abyss in Seoul is the new region Kamasilve. It is set to arrive in the summer. Kamasilve is located southeast of Calpheon and will be the home of a new race of dark elves. They will also be available as a playable class and will be quite similar to the Ranger. This is expected to happen in the summer.
In winter, players will be able to venture south of Calpheon into the kingdom of the dwarves. This part of the story will revolve around the tense relationship between dwarves and giants. It is unclear from the sources if dwarves will become the next playable class.
Players of Black Desert: Set Your Sights on the Sea
A major focus is on the sea. Players must navigate here as they would in the desert of Valencia, relying on their own instincts and cannot depend on the map. Beyond the ocean, there is said to be an undiscovered land about which not much is revealed yet, but players are expected to find outposts for trading there.
There will be naval battles, trade ships, different forms of fishing, underwater exploration, and much more. Warships can be crafted in the guild house, for example.
The Upcoming Awakening Weapons Distinguish Between Male and Female Wizards
In the Awakening system, existing classes get new facets, receive “secondary weapons,” and become more versatile. Awakening has already been revealed for many classes, with the last ones being introduced now.
Ninjas will be able to use several swords (around 3-5) in Black Desert, resembling a samurai style. Kunoichis will be able to use a huge chakram. They have been compared to an athlete specializing in rhythmic gymnastics. However, it might be that something was “Lost in Translation” there.
The wizards and witches will not receive proper “Awakening weapons,” but a kind of bonus skill. Wizards can master fire and water, while their female counterparts will control earth and electricity. This is planned for “later.” A bit surprising: Wizards/Witches were until now the only identical gender pair. It appears that distinctions are now being introduced.
Furthermore, Tier-9 horses (Hell Horse, Pegasus, Unicorn) are planned. They will not be faster, but will offer specific bonuses.
Other planned features include: an in-game voice chat, a variety of cooperative activities, and a bounty system. Oh, and players will also be able to ride baby elephants. These will be trade mounts.
According to the presentation, reported by a Korean site, these were the plans for Black Desert in Korea for 2016. We in the West still have a lot of content to catch up on, as we are still missing the desert region of Valencia, 4 classes, and a number of Awakening weapons compared to the current Korean version.
For us, what is presented here will likely not be relevant until at least 2017.
