In an interview, a developer recently spoke about the gameplay of Anthem. Singleplayer fans should also have their fun, but the online shooter is said to truly shine when played together with other players.
In Anthem, everything is supposed to revolve around exploring the world with other players. While teammates are not a requirement, the game might feel less rewarding in singleplayer, according to a developer.
What is it about? In an interview with the official PlayStation Magazine, Anthem developer Thomas Singleton from BioWare recently discussed the gameplay of the shooter. The team is very proud to connect connectivity and co-op gameplay with storytelling, which is rarely done this way.
Anthem is also designed for fans of singleplayer, but the game might feel less rewarding, Singleton notes.
We drive the team dynamics forward, that’s where the game really convinces. Anthem particularly shines in a squad. You play as a unit together to complete various missions. If someone wants to experience it solo, which is also an option, it probably won’t be as rewarding because you simply don’t have that team dynamic. The game scales whether you’re playing alone or with three other players.
How is it played solo? A while ago, BioWare stated that solo play in Anthem truly means playing alone. Unlike other titles from the studio, players in singleplayer are not supported by AI companions.
Some players criticize the decision not to replace a missing squad of real players with AI companions. One reason is the fear that the story might suffer due to multiplayer and that one can’t focus as much on the narrative.
Many fans counter that Anthem was presented as a co-op game from the start.
