Billionaire Elon Musk has launched a Twitter crusade against Fortnite. He wants to buy and delete it to protect children from eternal virginity. Even though he is challenged by professionals like Myth, he remains victorious.
This was the viral tweet: Elon Musk tweeted a picture of what appears to be a satirical article about himself yesterday.
The article was titled “Elon Musk buys Fortnite and deletes it.” With the fictional quote “I had to save these kids from eternal virginity.”
Elon Musk commented on this satire article with a “It had to be done. You’re welcome.”
Musk thus took ownership of the satirical article and presented it as if it were real news and he had done it.
Elon Musk (47) is an entrepreneur and investor with a huge reach on social media. His tweet received over 617,000 “likes” and over 211,000 retweets. The action was really big on Twitter.
How Fortnite pros react: Various well-known Fortnite streamers reacted to this tweet and joined in on the fun:
- OpTic Hitch wrote that he will now buy a Tesla.
- The streamer Pokemane commented: “Savage,” as in brutal. As recognition of a successful attack.
- and FaZe Agony urged Musk to save the snipers in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 next.
Hey, I only had sex after I played Fortnite
The best reaction: A tweet came from the 19-year-old pro TSM_Myth. He felt particularly hit by the quote about virginity.
Myth replied: “Sorry, Mr. Musk. But I think it’s important to clarify: I actually lost my virginity only after I played Fortnite. Just saying.”
Musk replied with an “Online doesn’t count.”
This sparked even more reactions. Musk’s reply is generally seen as very successful and as something that cannot be replied to.
Myth also admitted defeat:
Elon Musk – a billionaire on Twitter
This is what it’s about: Elon Musk relies on publicity for his projects. Therefore, he actively participates on Twitter. For him, it is an important marketing tool. When discussions in the world get big enough, Musk likes to use Twitter to get involved in the conversation.
For instance, he suggested getting involved in rescuing the boys trapped in a cave in Thailand in July 2018 with a mini-submarine.
Recently, Musk’s tweeting has brought him some trouble. After misleading tweets, he had to give up his CEO position on Tesla’s board and pay a fine of millions. He was accused of manipulating his company’s stock price with tweets.
Musk announced he would take Tesla private and pay $420 per share. This led to fluctuations in the stock price. Musk later backtracked, saying Tesla would remain public. Musk stated he made a joke – 420 is a drug slang term for marijuana (via Zeit.de).
Apparently Fortnite is now big enough for Musk to make his mark here.
