The new MMORPG Tower of Fantasy has been playable on PC, iOS, and Android since August 11. Many have already tried it, including Asmongold. The Twitch streamer gave the game several hours of airtime on his second channel and then decided: it is Pay2Win.
What kind of game is this?
- Tower of Fantasy was released on August 11 for iOS, Android, and PC. It strongly resembles Genshin Impact, but as a true MMORPG. In our special, you will find all the information about the release of Tower of Fantasy.
- The game is Free2Play, where you can create your own character. However, it also offers a so-called “Gacha mechanic,” where you receive random heroes that replace your character.
- The biggest MMORPG streamer on Twitch, Asmongold, has tried Tower of Fantasy and is now providing his first assessment.

“Limited Pay2Win in PvP”
This is what Asmongold says: On his second channel zackrawrr, Asmongold played Tower of Fantasy for about 6 hours at release and tested some of the mechanics, including the game’s Gacha system.
In a compilation, Asmongold shows why he considers Tower of Fantasy to be a Pay2Win game. He opens several loot boxes in succession, at first only the free ones. In these, he primarily finds batteries – items he can’t do much with.
However, when he pays once, he immediately gets Samir in the first box, one of the strongest characters in Tower of Fantasy, as he is informed in the chat:
The Twitch streamer explains that the Pay2Win factor is mainly limited to the already not very demanding PvE. In PvP, there is hardly anything noticeable, and those who only play PvP have no problems with Pay2Win at all.
Especially PvP is actually the point where Pay2Win is often a topic among players. Many players simply do not find it fair to be able to pay for a victory. However, according to Asmongold, this is only possible to a limited extent in Tower of Fantasy.
How is Tower of Fantasy received otherwise? In the Apple Store and on Google Play, Tower of Fantasy has a good rating of over 4 stars, even though there were some issues such as long waiting times at release and rather curious bugs.
Even Asmongold praises the game. In a tweet, he explains that the world looks good and the combat system is “decent.” The story can be compared to that of Lost Ark. However, he wants to play more before deciding if he will stick around longer or not.
According to Asmongold, the reason why Pay2Win games could become so large is that simply more players would agree to it. Even with the controversial Diablo Immortal, Asmongold demonstrated the system effectively:
