The Twitch streamer Elias “eliasn97” Nerlich (24) not only founded an e-sports team but also his own football team called Delay Sports Berlin. They recently completed their first two matches and emerged victorious.
Who is the streamer? Elias Nerlich is currently the largest German streamer on Twitch. After 4 years, he has finally surpassed the star streamer MontanaBlack.
The 24-year-old has always had a passion for football, but never had what it takes for a professional career. Additionally, he suffered a severe injury to his leg, which further hindered him from becoming a proper footballer.
Instead, Nerlich regularly played FIFA and was even a professional esports player for Hertha BSC for about 3 years, until he completely dedicated himself to his Twitch career in 2021. That year, in November, eliasn97 also founded the football club Delay Sports Berlin. They are now facing their first matches in the district league.

District League C beats District Leaguers B and A
What kind of matches were they? Delay Sports Berlin played their very first match in a friendly against B-leaguers Concordia Wilhelmsruh (via YouTube). Nerlich’s team dominated the game and won the match with a score of 5:1. Moreover, the streamer’s video reached 4th place on the trends and garnered 500,000 views in less than 24 hours.
The second match took place just a day later, and they had to face the A-leaguers Türkiyemspor in a test match. They took the lead relatively early in the game, scoring 2:0. However, things became inconsistent for Delay Sports Berlin afterwards, and they conceded 2 goals.
Due to a foul in the 86th minute, there was a free kick for Nerlich’s team, and they were able to score from the resulting opportunity, achieving a 3:2 victory. Thus, the club secured their next win against a team that is even 2 leagues above them.

Just for fun, but still successful
“The idea of this project is to establish our own football club – we did that. Playing with friends and having fun – that’s our idea behind it,” said eliasn97 in his YouTube video.
Nevertheless, the team has been quite successful so far:
- 2 matches won in a row
- Almost 100,000 more followers on Instagram than the official Hertha BSC
- Large squad of more than 30 people
Additionally, the team includes former footballers such as Sidney Friede, Bilal Kamarieh, and Kevin Pannewitz. However, both Friede and Nerlich were not present at the first two matches.
Friede is expected to join later, and eliasn97 is still struggling with his leg injury, which became acute again after he got injured in the 1st match. The 24-year-old is considering undergoing surgery again, as the bone in his fibula did not heal properly.
