For several days now, the community of Pokémon GO has been criticizing the retraction of the Corona bonuses in the game. A central point is the limitation of the interaction radius at PokéStops. Now, the changes are being undone. We at MeinMMO show you what has happened.
What is it about? Niantic announced a few weeks ago that they wanted to retract some of the Corona bonuses introduced in 2020 to return to their original game concept. Therefore, they began implementing these changes in New Zealand and the USA in early August.
One of these bonuses was the interaction radius at Gyms and PokéStops. This was increased from 40 meters to 80 meters due to the Corona pandemic. Many trainers strongly criticized the retraction of these bonuses and wrote an open letter to Niantic.
PokéStop change is being undone
Niantic has read the open letter and in a public statement from August 5, 2021, on their blog informed that they would reconsider this issue (via Nianticlabs.com). They promised to form a working group that would develop solutions and speak with representatives from the community.
This has now happened, and Niantic announced late in the evening on August 25, 2021, via their Twitter account, that they will set the interaction radius to 80 meters worldwide from now on (via twitter.com). In addition, there will be further results from the established working group, which Niantic will present on September 1, 2021.
These are the reactions from trainers
The news about the retraction of the reduced interaction radius and the general increase to 80 meters represents a significant victory for the community. This can also be seen in the reactions on Twitter and Reddit.
