The new chapter High Isle for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online has been live since the day before yesterday, June 6, 22, on the live servers for PC (EU and NA). The initial feedback from the community is once again divided. You can find out what it looks like here at MeinMMO.
What kind of expansion is this? With the chapter High Isle, the story “Legacy of the Bretons” continues, which started with the dungeon DLC Ascending Tide. ESO releases one major chapter annually with new areas and storylines, which continue at the end of the year.
The High Isle expansion offers ESO players:
- new area
- volcanic vents as world events (similar to the anchors in the base game)
- new story centered around intrigues (approx. 30 hours of gameplay)
- new feature: collectible card game “Tales of Glory”
- new trial Grey Mire Reef (12 players)
- extension of the Blackwood feature: 2 new companions

The new expansion is once again generating very different opinions. There is hardly any critical voice regarding the graphical implementation and design of the environment, while ESO steps into a minefield with server issues at launch.
Praise for lovingly designed cities and graphical implementation
In one respect, the community is united regarding the new chapter! High Isle features a beautiful landscape. The graphical implementation is truly successful, and the cities are lovingly and authentically designed.
This time, High Isle is not an exotic area with unusual plants. It has more of the classic image of the medieval period, with knights and castles. And that has its own charm.
Ykieps on Twitter has taken some particularly remarkable shots of the new area.
Criticism for a bumpy start with repeated server issues
Shortly after the servers went online, one of the servers had to be taken offline again. ESO does not handle this very elegantly either, as the announced maintenance time is extended further.
This is causing partially mocking comments on social media and reddit. Unfortunately, this is not an exception. Previously released chapters experienced exactly these blunders.
andreimaxaa writes in a comment on reddit:
Looks like they replaced the server hamster with new server hobbit. The servers will need 2nd breakfast today.

With this, the user likely wants to refer to known server problems in ESO that have been accompanying the MMORPG for several years.
However, it should be noted that only the North American megaserver had this problem, while the EU server launched the new chapter without issues.
However, there were also some small technical errors in the game itself. For example, one of the new world bosses took a long time to spawn.
Is it worth starting with the new High Isle expansion?
Often, interested players wonder if they can even catch up if they start ESO now. The entry is easier than ever. The experience gain has been increased and the champion points have been reworked so that especially the first points matter when it comes to a player’s strength.
You receive champion points as soon as you reach level 50 with one of your characters. This has also been greatly simplified to accommodate new players. Furthermore, there are valuable rewards for each level up.
If you place great value on good and comprehensive storylines in which you can easily relax, then this is the right place for you. But even in terms of group challenges, ESO has a lot to offer. The latest ESO dungeons, for example, are a great new challenge for veterans.
