With the announcement of The Division 2, discussions around the sequel began. While YouTube experts like MarcoStyle and Skill Up are optimistic and see a continuation as a great opportunity for the franchise, parts of the community fear another Destiny 2.

MarcoStyle – “The Division 2 will not just be a remake.”
In direct response to the reveal of the sequel, renowned Division YouTuber MarcoStyle released a video expressing his opinion. He sees the announcement very positively and primarily as an opportunity for Massive to completely redo The Division and make it better.
He understands the fans who want the story to continue from the first installment. However, that one has many fundamental issues like netcode, bugs, glitches, and hackers. Patches would not be enough to resolve these.
The Division 2 offers exactly the opportunity not to repeat such mistakes while integrating a lot of new content.
The developers’ statements contribute to Marco’s optimism. They have learned a lot from their time with The Division and are aware of the possibilities a sequel offers. Therefore, he believes The Division 2 will be more than just a remake.
A Destiny 2 scenario is also possible, one simply has to wait for more information.
Even one of the formerly largest Division YouTubers, Skill Up, sees things similarly and mentions many points in his statement, points that cannot be solved with DLCs for The Division 1 but require a sequel:

- revise the netcode
- combat the hacker problem
- fix animation issues
- completely overhaul inventory management
- fill the open world with more life
- continue the main story
- either provide new areas or a completely new setting
- rethink the Dark Zone design (Rogue 2.0)
- revise the concept of gear sets
A The Division 2 could mean a kind of fresh start for many players, attracting new ones and solidifying the franchise. It would therefore be an opportunity for Massive to finally overcome the problems of the past.

The announcement of The Division 2 and the contents for Year 3 are received with mixed feelings in the comments on our articles by Mein MMO readers. Many fear a disaster akin to Destiny 2.
- Sevenghost approaches it skeptically and hopes that the trend of add-ons as full-price titles does not become the norm.
- Klatch 1.0 writes: “I now have nearly 3000 playing hours and I am looking forward to The Division 2! The current The Division has become so boring. It’s about time!”
- Jimmey Dean would have been happy to wait another 2-3 years for proper expansions for the first part, to then see a finished, comprehensive, and polished The Division 2 after 5 years of development.
- Erzkanzler feels similarly: “Shooter MMOs should take a cue from MMORPGs regarding the product lifecycle. They barely managed to bring The Division to a playable state and now want to emulate Bungie…”
- krieglich is less skeptical and finds that the developers have really put effort into making the first part a well-rounded game that is now extremely fun in co-op, and thus looks forward to the new installment.
- Compadre does not see the risk that The Division 2 will follow the path of Destiny 2. The Division 1 has actually gotten better since early 2017, while Destiny 1 has gotten worse since early 2016.
- SVBgunslinger also contradicts the fears: For all the core problems, a sequel is the best solution. With all the experiences, Massive should now be able to deliver a top-notch game.
- DevilRon1989 is optimistic and writes: “Nice news. Hopefully, the second part will also be fed with more content. I would also like to learn more of the story. I also wish for more variety in terms of enemies.”
