The MMORPG Elyon was once known as the “game with airships A:IR” and was first presented in 2017. It comes from Bluehole, the developers of PUBG and Tera. Now Elyon is slowly launching in North America and Europe: The action MMORPG has an official English-language website. The closed beta is expected to start in the coming months, and the release in Europe is planned for 2021.
This is the development of Elyon so far:
- In November 2017, Bluehole, the developers of PUBG and Tera, announced their new MMORPG “Ascent: Infinite Realm” (A:IR) which focused on airships and PvP combat in the air.
- A:IR did not perform well, only a few were interested in the game – the gameplay just didn’t catch on. The game was described as grindy, clunky, and unpolished. It was even compared to the MMORPG flop Bless.
- Despite the negative news, Bluehole continued to invest in the online role-playing game: in 2020 there was a major overhaul: The MMORPG was now called Elyon, appeared like a TERA 2, and focused on much more action and a new look.
- The MMORPG has already launched in Korea, and it is expected to come to Europe in 2021. Now, it is slowly heading towards closed beta.
This is the current status: Bluehole has now launched an English-language page for Elyon (via elyon). Here you can find typical basic information about an MMORPG. We see videos of the 5 classes of the game: Warlord, Mystic, Elementalist, Gunslinger, and Assassin. There is more information about the skills and what makes Elyon unique: the customizable skills and the variety of different activities.
Interestingly, Bluehole presents itself as the “developer of TERA” and not as the “makers behind PUBG”.
On the page, you can register and subscribe to a newsletter (via kp.games). This will inform you when the closed beta for Elyon begins.
MMORPG Elyon will also be available in German
This is what’s next: There will be two closed beta phases in the coming months. Only when Kakao Games is satisfied with the feedback should Elyon be released. This is likely to happen no earlier than autumn 2021.
Kakao Games plans to announce the exact start date of the 1st closed beta of Elyon “very soon”. However, the first closed beta will likely offer very little content and be “far from the release version.” But there will be events and battles to show players what to expect in the actual MMORPG later. The first closed beta will apparently also be open to relatively few players.
The second closed beta is expected to give more players the opportunity to test Elyon compared to the first and serve as a test for the MMORPG’s servers.
The registration for the beta is not open yet and should start at a later date.
Elyon will be available in 4 languages: English, German, French, and Spanish.
The payment model is still unclear; in South Korea, it operates as a “cheap Buy2Play” game similar to Black Desert.
Why should you be interested in Elyon? It is the most interesting Asian MMORPG that we will get anytime soon.
Lost Ark is probably still a bit higher on the wishlist of many MMORPG fans, but that is a bit further away than Elyon.
Gameplay-wise, you should not expect a revelation from Elyon, but it is once again a “real, classic MMORPG” that wants to impress with its dynamic combat system.
