The release of Diablo 2 Resurrected is just around the corner, and to further ramp up the excitement, Blizzard has released a fun trailer. In it, actor Simu Liu, famous from the Marvel movie, makes an appearance with a rather different confession. Check out the trailer here on MeinMMO and learn more about the background.
What is shown in the trailer? Diablo 2 Resurrected – the remake of the cult game Diablo 2 – launches on September 23, 2021, and to finalise the setup, the developers at Blizzard have treated you to a special new trailer after the last video.
A young man (Marvel star Simu Liu) enters a creepy church, where, among other things, statues of demon lords stand, monsters appear in paintings, or the altar image shows Diablo himself in battle with a hero.
The churchgoer then enters the confessional and “confesses” to the priest that he plans to commit a lot of sins, as the Lord of Terror will soon return, and someone has to do something about it.
Among other things, the young man must give in to greed and the pursuit of power and once again bathe in the blood of demons.
The priest asks somewhat perplexed, “That sounds like you are asking for permission, not forgiveness.”
The would-be sinner then replies, “Yes, I am!”
Shang-Chi star Simu Liu has always been a Diablo fan
Who is Simu Liu and what does he have to do with Diablo? The 32-year-old Canadian is the star of the new Marvel hit Shang-Chi and is currently in everyone’s mind. But that wasn’t the only reason he appeared in the trailer.
Simu Liu is himself a big fan of Diablo, especially Diablo 2. This is evidenced by a funny anecdote from the actor in 2003 that he posted on Twitter.
In it, he describes that back then – he was 14 years old – he played Diablo 2 via a DSL modem, even though he should have been writing an essay for school. Therefore, he had the essay open in another window of the computer and listened like a hawk if his parents came up to check on him.
When he actually heard his parents’ footsteps, he tried to switch windows with Alt-Tab, but the PC crashed right at that moment and still displayed the frozen game scene in Diablo 2. In his panic, he yanked out the power cable and thus avoided being discovered, but also killed the unsaved essay.
The words from the trailer in which the protagonist confesses that he will “once again” bathe in the blood of demons and dive into the darkness thus relate to the many hours that Simu Liu spent more or less secretly in Diablo 2 in 2003.
How are the fans reacting? The trailer was well received by fans and has already garnered over 70,000 views and 4.3K upvotes on YouTube (as of September 22, 2021). Fans praise his appearance and are excited to see more of their star after the Shang-Chi film.
Additionally, there are comments like “The guy lives the geek dream” or “I was so happy to see Simu Liu in the Diablo universe”.
In fact, some fans wish for the Marvel star to become a character in the game. Users comment on YouTube, among others:
- “At first, I thought the guy would be the new class!”
- “Are we getting a Shang-Chi transmog? I want one!”
- “I thought that the Shang-Chi superhero would be the new class.”
Unfortunately, a class like the martial arts monk known from Diablo 3 is not in the lineup for Diablo 2 Resurrected. However, there is the Amazon, whose new look is currently being controversially discussed: Blizzard explains why the Amazon looks less sexy in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
