The action RPG Pagan Online received a major update. This changes so much that even the entire game progress had to be reset. Everything earned is gone after the wipe.
What was released? Mad Head Games and Wargaming have launched the first “Big Fucking Patch” for the Early Access version of Pagan Online. With this BFP, the hack ‘n slash is supposed to be played completely differently now.
A massive update for Pagan Online
What changes has the BFP introduced? There are several major new features and changes to the game. These are so extensive that there was a wipe, meaning the reset of characters in the game:
- The Ability Tree: A new ability system for the heroes has been integrated, which is supposed to be more robust and interesting in the long run. Each time you level up, you now get a skill point that you can use to buy new skills or improve skills in three levels.
- Each hero gets two new abilities to improve balancing.
- The stat system has been overhauled so that players not only focus on offensive characters but can also try out defensive builds.
- New items are making their way to Pagan Online, and the balancing of items is being revised.
- Crafting is no longer as important. There are no more crafting levels, and you won’t find recipes as often.
- The story has been expanded with Act 6.
- The UI should now be more comfortable.
Why were these changes made? As can be seen from the ratings on Steam, the hack ‘n slash Pagan Online has not been very well received so far.
In the past 30 days, the rating of Pagan Online on Steam has been 58 percent and “Mixed”.
Especially the previously weak character development and lack of loot were criticized. The balancing also did not go over well. And these are exactly the issues that the developers are now addressing with the major patch.
Good changes, but a surprising wipe
What do the players think of the update? The wipe took the players by surprise. Many are upset that their entire game progress is gone and they now have to start over. And this, even though it was actually said that there would be no wipes.
The developers have already apologized for this and are giving every player as compensation the opportunity to play all heroes from the beginning without having to unlock them. Additionally, each character receives a Hero Souls and 150 Shards of in-game currency.
Overall, the changes are well-received because they address exactly the things that players have criticized about the gameplay. For many, Pagan Online is developing in the right direction and could become a very good hack ‘n slash with more polish.
Why players should be cautious: The developers have announced that this BFP is just the first one. More of these large updates are to follow. Therefore, it is quite possible that there will be wipes again.
