New information about Beyond Good and Evil 2 creates anticipation. There are fresh gameplay scenes and first details about the combat system.
It has been almost a year since the announcement of Beyond Good and Evil 2, and new information has been scarce since then. In a recent stream, the developers revealed initial details about the combat system and also talked a bit about ship controls. Additionally, there is a solid timeline with information about the story of BGE2.
The timeline reveals the background story’s progression
For story fans, some revelations about the timeline of the Beyond Good and Evil 2 universe should be particularly interesting. The developers broke down how the game world has evolved and how the setting can be chronologically placed.
For this, they have revealed some dates.
- Year 2040: Scientists achieve several breakthroughs. Technology for space colonization is being researched.
- Year 2063: Artificial intelligence rebels against humans, leading to a major conflict that ends in the discovery of better communication methods.
- Year 2086: The first hybrid is created. A mix of animal and human DNA.
- Year 2108: Humanity leaves Earth in several expeditions.
- Year 2225: The city “Ganesha” is founded (the city from the first trailer).
- Year 2314: The crew of a massive spaceship is mysteriously massacred.
- Year 2360: The golden age of piracy begins.
- Unknown year: Jade (the main character from the first game) is born.
- Shortly after: The entry of Beyond Good and Evil 2.
The developers promise that playing Beyond Good and Evil 2 will not require any prior knowledge from the first game, even if some secrets will be revealed. Those who have not played the first game will not miss anything, as the story is meant to unfold “naturally”.
Combat system with many weapons
Initial details about the combat system were also presented. You can almost seamlessly jump out of your small glider, land on an enemy ship, and beat up the crew – for example, with a combat staff. A small gameplay trailer shows how this works.
Details about flying as a group
BGE2 will feature multiplayer and will be designed so that a large part of the game can be experienced solo or in a group. However, with such a gigantic game world, there is a risk of quickly losing sight of your fellow players.
Because the flight speed in Beyond Good and Evil 2 can be quite high, and you could lose sight of your friends in a matter of seconds, you can essentially come together as an armada. This is similar to a “follow” command from MMOs – your own ship then follows the group leader.
For E3 this summer, the developers have stated that they still have a few secrets in store that they want to present there. So it remains exciting.
Are you already looking forward to Beyond Good and Evil 2? Or can you not really get into this rather bizarre action RPG so far?
