This alone creates pressure on players who wish to join an ambitious community regarding online times, donations, and similar aspects. Those who do not meet the (high) expectations will be removed. Such guilds often have long waiting lists.

The Power Over Loot
What else do I need to know? The power of guilds or guild leaders also manifests when it comes to the distribution of loot that the community earns in group challenges. JayRupp writes on Reddit:
This has been bothering me for a few days. The fact that a guild can set its loot distribution so that members’ boss drops (even when they play solo) are automatically deposited into the guild bank and locked away is by far one of the most absurd things I’ve ever seen in an MMO.
Of course, there is the option to give guild members 5 minutes to claim an item before it is automatically gone, but for some reason many guilds don’t want to use this. I wonder why that is.
At the end of his post, JayRupp warns that you should always keep an eye on your guild’s loot distribution settings. There is no good reason for a guild to disable this 5-minute window for loot.
How does the community react to this feature? Several players have already had bad experiences or fear the worst:
- Commander_Beatdown writes (via Reddit): “There are obviously good guild leaders, but the current system is a big, juicy, low-hanging fruit for all the sociopaths and narcissists out there who are attracted to positions of power and only instrumentalize their members.”
- Classic_South_5374 explains on Reddit: “I recently joined a guild and noticed that the guild leader follows a greedy loot policy, so that all loot goes to the guild. This information is not visible or transparent before joining. Additionally, the guild leader can change the loot policy at any time. That is too much power.”
- RenegadeReddit points out another issue on Reddit: “There is no way to specify what the setting is when choosing a guild. […] The guild leader can change the setting at any time, even during the boss fight. You will be banned for 36 hours if you leave a guild.”
