In The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has now had the new expansion Elsweyr available on PC for almost a week. Time to check the community’s reactions.
Since May 20, 2019, you can at least play Elsweyr on PC. The third chapter expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online takes you to Elsweyr, the land of the Khajiit cat people. There are also dragons roaming around, and for the first time, you can play the long-awaited class of the Necromancer.
All of this, cats, dragons, and necromancers, is received very well by ESO fans in the official forum. According to the creator of the forum post, Darkstorne, Elsweyr even has the potential to be “the best ESO expansion yet.” Many other players share this opinion.

What Fans Love About Elsweyr
What fans say about the setting: The fans’ joy begins right with the land of Elsweyr itself. Unlike Summerset, each settlement looks different (especially the capital Rimmen). In the last expansion’s elven island, everything was indeed beautiful but somewhat similar.
But in general, the presentation and the atmosphere of the new land are also appreciated:
- “As soon as I got out of the tutorial, I was in love. It’s all so beautiful! I can’t wait to see everything!”
- “This is my new favorite zone! Everything looks so cool, and I want to paint pictures of it!”
- “Elsweyr is wonderful! Best zone yet. Most cultural depth. Wonderful lore!”
- “I love Elsweyr! The landscapes are stunning, the land is full of interesting and colorful characters, the stories are fascinating, and the quests are fun and engaging!”

The map design is also praised. Instead of impassable mountains and volcanoes, like in the last expansions, there is a deep gorge that can be fully explored here. This makes the map of Elsweyr even a bit larger than anticipated.
This is the feedback on the story: With Elsweyr, a new story begins in ESO, which has nothing to do with the Daedric Princes but instead involves dragons and an evil queen. Here too, it seems that ZeniMax has struck a chord with the community:
- “That was the best main quest storyline so far”
- “I love that Sir Cadwell is back in the game. I usually skip dialogues, but I have to listen to these.”

This is how the Necromancer is being received: The Necromancer has been demanded by fans since 2014 and has already been showered with praise on the test server. This continues to be true for the live version:
- “I now have a Necromancer main, and it is a lot of fun. I just love Elsweyr, thank you!”
This is what is being said about the dragons: The dragons, the outstanding new feature of Elsweyr, are also well-received:
- “The dragon fights are really fun. I always laugh when one appears and a horde of players stands there, and no one dares to take the first step.”
- “Dragon fights are awe-inspiring.”
- “Dragon events should also occur in the old zones.”

What players also like: In addition, many players love the following things about Elsweyr:
- The atmospheric new music
- The various Khajiit species, especially the adorable Alfiq
- How ZeniMax managed to create a truly new, exciting zone
What is Criticized about Elsweyr
Of course, not everything is perfect with Elsweyr. While criticism is sparse, some things still do not sit right with some fans.
- “If you are not into necromancers and all the Khajiit lore stuff, the dragons will get boring soon, and you will notice that the gameplay is 90 percent a re-skin and re-use of old content.”
- “I find that the dust storms and the lack of water surfaces are a bit depressing, and the coloring (dried poop-brown with overly bright flowers) causes migraines.”

Some players are sad because they, as console players, can only play Elsweyr starting June 4:
- “Oh no, I’m a console player, I can’t wait to play!”
Others would like the game to also react to the fact that they play as a Khajiit. This player also practices high-level complaining:
“That these new areas, especially cities, look so good makes the old ones seem bland and boring in comparison. Can nothing be done about that?”
