Many have not only enjoyed cartoon series in their childhood, but also animes. A study has now found that one anime is more popular than Peppa Pig and Tom & Jerry. Another anime has even fought its way to the 5th place among the most popular children’s series.
Which series make it to the top 5? In 1st place is the blonde ninja from Konohagakure. Naruto dominates the top of the most popular children’s series worldwide. It is the most searched series in 83 countries. In the following positions, there is another anime that many of you might know:
- 2nd place: CoComelon (49 countries)
- 3rd place: Peppa Pig (6 countries)
- 4th place: Tom & Jerry (5 countries)
- 5th place: Dragon Ball (4 countries)
All other series like Teletubbies, Adventure Time, Looney Tunes, and Bluey appear at most three times at the top of the most popular children’s series.
What is the basis of the study? The study was conducted by TheToyZone and is based on the search results of each country on Google. The company behind the search engine had already published the most searched terms on searchplayground.google last year. Here, Naruto was also in 1st place.
For the ranking, a list of 6,638 children’s series from Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney, and others was compiled. The interesting thing about this study is that animes and children’s series from around the world are aggregated. This way, Naruto also competes against the current childhood heroes.

Where are which series particularly popular? Naruto dominates almost the entire world:
- Naruto is the most searched children’s series in both Europe and Central and South America. In Japan, the land of animes, Naruto also ranks 1st.
- CoComelon is “only” a YouTube channel that mainly animates children’s rhymes and songs in 3D. But there are also episodes teaching children words. The series is particularly popular in parts of Africa and Asia.
- In the USA, Adventure Time is especially popular, whereas in Australia, Bluey dominates.
- There are some countries where local productions have landed in 1st place. Two examples are Matu Patlu in India and Rafadan Tayfa in Turkey.
What is the reason for that? Naruto is very popular among both children and adults. The series is one of the Big Three (Naruto, One Piece, Bleach) and has a completed story.
Naruto likely landed in 1st place because it features complex character developments and exciting twists within the story. Many fans may have had questions and searched for them on Google.
Is the result representative? There is a small catch with the study. Many viewers, to whom the series are targeted at, are not able to search on Google due to their age. The target audience for Peppa Pig, for example, is preschool age, while for Naruto, the age is likely higher.
The target audience for animated series aimed at a younger audience did not contribute to the ranking in the study. Rather, concerned parents or young-at-heart fans likely led to searches for Peppa Pig and others on Google.
