One of the newest event quests in Monster Hunter Wilds is very popular in the community. Because in it, you can earn a cute bird hat. But there is more to it than many initially assume.
What kind of hat is it? The mentioned headpiece is the “Amphicat α,” which you can earn through the event quest “The Song of the Quematrice.”
The events change at regular intervals, giving you until April 23, 2024, to hunt a normal Quematrice. This will earn you materials with which you can then craft the bird at Gemma in the forge. You need to complete the quest 3 times for this.
As a result, you will then receive a cuddly bird that perches on your head. You can see it on the title image. The “bird hat” is extremely popular among fans. But it is also surrounded by a mystery that many players seem to be unaware of and which is causing quite a stir in the community.

What’s up with the bird? At first glance, the hat just looks like a goofy, cuddly bird. It moves and blinks like a normal animal. However, upon closer inspection, you will notice that its movements seem a bit strange.
And there is a reason for this, as according to the “item description,” this is not a real animal but a stuffed Amphicat:
There is also said to have been a original form that could blow bubbles, but it didn’t resonate well with the audience.
What does the community say about it? This discovery is causing a stir on Reddit. Fans find this not only bizarre but also can hardly believe that this bird is supposed to be non-living. Many consider the description to be a joke.
In a Reddit thread by user LeWegWurf, there are numerous hunters with a clear opinion on this revelation:

- Bubbly_Birthday_5517 writes: “The way it moves its head and mouth is like a living animal. Is it supposed to be some kind of animatronic? I love my little guy.”

LeWegWurf himself comments on the latter remark: “Part of me thinks they’re testing the community’s reaction to this flavour text…” Whether he is correct in his assumption remains to be seen.
Capcom has often proven itself to be close to the community in the past and clearly shows through such small gimmicks that they are aware of such discussions and phenomena. LeWegWurf’s thought seems far from unreasonable.
