Some Guardians in Destiny 2 constantly find ways to sabotage players or destroy them through hacks. This time, a trick was used that allowed players to easily kick other Guardians out of the game using Bungie’s built-in text chat.
What happened over the weekend? Over the weekend from July 29 to July 31, a chaotic mess circulated in Destiny 2. Players could kick other Guardians out of the game thanks to the text chat. Many took advantage of this to gain a nasty edge in PvP.
This was a trick where Guardians overloaded an opponent’s text chat with copy-paste messages. The chat became overloaded, resulting in a program crash for the affected player. Bungie noticed this and temporarily disabled the text chat across all platforms.

Guardians helped themselves: When this trick spread, players tried to help themselves. To avoid becoming a victim of such a spam attack, the community advised disabling the chat manually in the settings.
Despite this, more scammers roamed the servers of Destiny 2, maltrasting players who were unaware of the fix. Therefore, Bungie was forced to completely disable the text chat to investigate the problem more closely.
How long will the text chat be disabled? It is still unclear when the chat can go online again without complications. Since it could be a more complicated issue, Bungie may need to tweak it for a while to fix it.
Guardians have to either switch to other platforms like Discord or the integrated voice chat if they want to communicate. It remains to be seen whether and when players will be allowed to type again.
What do you think of Bungie’s quick intervention? Do you think it’s good that the text chat was disabled so quickly? And how was it for you? Were you also a victim of such a kick attempt? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
