A gamer can no longer play his favorite game Destiny, now a good friend is looking for alternatives and breaking the community’s heart.
What is behind the story? A gamer has gone to Reddit searching for PvE shooters that, as he says, Dory from “Finding Nemo” could also play. The user named “spooof” is looking for a new game for his 40-year-old gamer buddy who has fallen ill with dementia.
Spooof explains that for years, the loot shooter Destiny was his friend’s favorite game, but unfortunately the game from Bungie is now too complicated for him, as his mental abilities are gradually declining. Although he still has the reflexes and coordination of a shooter player, he simply cannot remember things in the game and PvP games are overwhelming.
The Reddit user wants to help his friend and says, “I feel bad for him because he’s pretty much lost everything since his dementia has gotten worse, and Destiny was kinda the last thing he had.”
Zombies, arcade, and boomer shooters
These are the community’s suggestions: The post received around 480 comments within 12 hours in the gaming subreddit, including some game suggestions:
- Serious Sam – the suggestion received over 900 upvotes as the arcade shooter can be played thoughtlessly, and players only need to worry about things that are directly in front of them.
- Left 4 Dead – the zombie shooter with 4-player co-op received over 500 upvotes because it is straightforward and uncomplicated, plus it has great replay value.
- Halo – the popular shooter series was mentioned several times, especially since he likes Destiny and Halo has no complicated mechanics.
A Destiny player immediately suggested a whole category of games:
- the so-called “boomer shooters,” including games like Ultrakill, Trepang2, and Warhammer 40k: Boltgun.
Boomer shooters are characterized by fast gameplay that relies on constant movement and does not use cover systems or similar. There is little to no story or cutscenes, and the graphics are in a retro style.
“Heartbreaking to hear at such a young age”
In addition to various game suggestions, many gamers have also expressed their participation. One user writes: “Wow, this really broke my heart” and shows sympathy for the terrible time. Another user comments: “Heartbreaking to hear at such a young age.”
A Destiny player says that he will take down a few enemies in honor of the ill gamer when the new expansion comes out. In Destiny 2, the new expansion starts on July 15: Today marks the start of Destiny 2: At the Edge of Fate – These are the key contents of the new expansion
