Dragon Age 4 is dropping its extensive multiplayer mode and insiders blame Anthem for it. What does this mean?
BioWare fans are currently waiting for several new games. The “Mass Effect” remaster will be released soon, and in the distant future are a new Mass Effect and also a Dragon Age 4. However, Dragon Age 4 will likely launch without multiplayer. At least, that’s what insiders are saying now.
What has been said? In a conversation with Bloomberg, some insiders from BioWare revealed that there are massive plan changes for the upcoming Dragon Age 4. Originally, the game was supposed to focus heavily on multiplayer content and thus be lucrative in the long term. These plans have apparently been changed and all multiplayer components will be removed.
The insiders wished to remain anonymous as they are not actually allowed to speak with the press.
Why is the multiplayer being cut? We don’t know the exact reasons, but there are some reasonable speculations. On one hand, this revelation comes immediately after the inglorious end of Anthem – a multiplayer title that failed brutally and left many fans angry. On the other hand, EA has seen in recent years that single-player games can also be very successful, such as the recently released Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Jason Schreier, who consistently shines with good contacts to the developers, puts it this way on Twitter:
After the success of Jedi Fallen Order and the failure of Anthem, EA has allowed BioWare to make the next Dragon Age a single-player RPG. Previously, it was planned as a live game.
Apparently, EA trusts that BioWare can create solid single-player titles that can also be profitable without multiplayer components.
However, please note that there has been no official statement from EA or BioWare regarding this.
When will Dragon Age 4 be released? So far, there is no release date for the next “Dragon Age” adventure. Even the title is not yet set, as “Dragon Age 4” is actually just the provisional working title. Given that there are hardly any images or videos of the game available, a release seems to be quite a while away. Based on the current status, a release in 2021 is probably not to be expected.
