Those who look closely at Destiny 2 will notice that a mysterious story about the spreading darkness has been told for years.
This is about the tree: In Season 11, players can advance the story weekly. In this so-called interference mission, the Guardians always start their hunt for the wicked Witch Queen at the foot of an ancient, silver tree.
Have you noticed that the Tree of Silver Wings has changed since your first visit? While the majestic tree once shone brightly to its tips, it now seems truly rotten, yes, corrupted. Week by week, this dark rot has spread from the canopy and is moving toward the roots.
Observant players have now noticed that there is a cool story behind this, which began 5 years ago and is far from finished.
What do a tree, two Exotics, and an artifact have in common?
This old story is gaining momentum: Do the veterans remember the Exotic Ruin Wings from Destiny 1? The silver-glinting gloves told of exactly the tree that is now at the center of the Season 11 story – but nobody could have known that back then.
With the arrival of the darkness in our solar system, the rot is now spreading in the ancient tree, and its shine is fading more and more.
In the garden grows a tree with silver wings. The leaves are ruin, the trunk disaster. We won’t speak of the seeds.
Lore text of the Exotic Ruin Wings
What once caused puzzled head-scratching is now coming together. Even the reference to the “seeds” that no one speaks of is now a well-known item: Our seasonal artifact is called Seed of the Silver Wings and also changes as it becomes more powerful.
The increasingly decaying tree tells its story in a similar way as the Pyramid ships of darkness were announced in Season 10:
This new Exotic continues the story: Recently, Destiny players can get their hands on one of the coolest Exotics ever: Withering Image.
In English, the connection to the tree and the prophesied ruin comes across better; there it is called Ruinous Effigy.
- The unusual weapon Withering Image was initially “carved” from the Tree of Silver Wings during a long quest and then empowered by darkness.
- The item description refers to the Exotic from part 1 and warns of a wind “that will reshape this dead world”.
- The gunsmith Banshee-44 warns that Withering Image will consume our light.
- The weapon is mainly bright glowing in its standard form but the ornament shows it as completely black and makes it pulse ominously.
All of this is also reflected in the story: Darkness is spreading through the solar system, consuming planets and increasingly corrupting us players. Do you have an idea of what might happen when the once radiant tree is completely devoured by darkness?
