With perks, you gain strong passive abilities in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that support your playstyle. For years, “Ghost” has been one of the most popular and powerful perks—especially in combination with a suppressor. In the latest CoD, however, you shouldn’t rely too much on this combo.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the first killstreak you unlock is also one of the strongest: the Recon Drone.
The modern CoD mini-map only shows enemies when a drone is circulating in the sky—this was different in the past. Also, enemies firing a weapon without a suppressor were briefly visible on the small radar.
As the only counter to the strong drones, the Ultimate Perk “Ghost” protects you from being detected by the drone. However, it doesn’t work to the same extent as it did a few years ago.
In Warzone 1, “Ghost” was actually deactivated if you camped in a corner for too long. However, Warzone 2.0 is coming soon:

The perks work a bit differently each year. With the new perk system in Modern Warfare 2, everything feels a bit different anyway. Ghost has also gone through many changes over the years.
What you should know about “Ghost” in MW2:
- “Ghost” is deactivated for a few seconds when you fire a weapon
- This does not change if you play with a suppressor
The perk has been nerfed repeatedly in recent years, and the latest nerf includes suppressors. Because they actually prevented “Ghost” from being deactivated after firing.
YouTuber “JackFrags” provided clarification with a video. At the moment, however, it is unclear whether this is a bug.
Under the tweet, “TheXclusiveAce,” a CoD YouTuber who has made a name for himself over the years through in-depth analyses of Call of Duty’s mechanics, chimed in. Ace says this is a bug. Something similar occurred in Call of Duty: Vanguard.
But whether it’s a bug or not—don’t rely too much on the ghost perk. The changes in recent years have weakened the mini-map and “Ghost,” while the Recon Drone has become one of the best killstreaks.
By the way: Suppressors still help to ensure that you don’t show up at the top of the enemy’s compass when firing.
