In Star Wars: Battlefront 2 you can now buy “Pride and Accomplishment” – a community mod makes it possible. This immortalizes the most hated Reddit comment of all time in the online shooter.
The loot box debate at the end of 2017 was the major controversial topic in the gaming industry. The effects still extend into this year, as the discussion over whether loot boxes are gambling and should exist in video games is far from over.
Back then, Electronic Arts tried to justify the loot boxes and the intended grind in Star Wars: Battlefront 2. On Reddit, it was explained that unlocking Darth Vader is supposed to be something that rewards players with “pride and a sense of achievement,” or in the original English: “A sense of pride and accomplishment.”
Actually, EA’s community team aimed to smooth things over, but the situation escalated. EA’s post received a staggering 670,000 downvotes and is thus the most downvoted post in the history of Reddit.
The fact that the topic has not been forgotten yet is now shown by a new mod for Battlefront 2. If desired, you can exchange the loot box texture so that the words “PRIDE AND ACCOMPLISHMENT” prominently appear on the loot chest. EA will likely be dealing with this issue for months. Whether it will harm the publisher in the long run is doubtful.
In the end, it really only leaves the question of whether Electronic Arts feels any “pride and accomplishment” when looking at the most downvoted Reddit post of all time.
