Now, GamesBeat reports new information – The new installment of the Battlefield series is reportedly called “Battlefield V” and, like Call of Duty: WWII, is set in World War 2. GamesBeat’s report relies on information from an anonymous source familiar with EA’s plans.
First Battlefield 2, then Battlefield 5
The new installment of the Battlefield series is being developed by DICE in Sweden. According to rumors, the game initially had the working title Battlefield 2 but was later renamed Battlefield V. However, this will not be a remake of Battlefield 2 from 2005, but a completely new game with a WW2 background.
According to an anonymous source, the title is expected to be officially announced by EA soon. This makes sense, as the EA Play event in June is supposed to have the title playable.
GamesBeat writes that EA and DICE already decided “years ago” to move away from Battlefield titles that are set in modern or near-future times. Battlefield 1 from 2016 took place in World War 1. This setting had not been used by any previous title in the series. BF1 was and is popular, being one of the best-selling games from EA.
