Today marks the start of the Battle Royale for Battlefield 6. MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller has taken another look at all the weapons in the shooter and is considering which could be particularly strong in the new mode. Here are his top 7.
How is this selection composed? Each of us knows the competition between Battlefield and Call of Duty. Without having played the battle royale mode yet, I assume it will strongly resemble aspects of Call of Duty: Warzone – after all, there remains a competitive situation between the two franchises.
In Warzone, you typically have two primary weapons. Players have relied on the same combinations for years:
- Two fully automatic primary weapons with different strengths, one for short and one for medium to long distances
- For example, 1x assault rifle + 1x SMG
- A sniper rifle with a primary weapon that can win gunfights at 40 to 50 meters distance
- For example, 1x sniper rifle + 1x assault rifle
So in this selection, you first find the weapons for short distance, then the weapons for medium to long distance, followed by those that are particularly suitable for sniper support. Finally, the recommended sniper rifle.
The potential meta weapons for short distance
These two weapons are particularly good in combination with a fully automatic rifle for greater distances. However, since the SMGs in Battlefield 6 are generally very strong and versatile, they can also be combined with a sniper rifle.
SCW-10
What makes the SCW-10 so strong? The SCW-10 has an extremely strong time-to-kill and a low recoil. The only SMG that can match the TTK of the SCW-10 is the KV9. However, due to the higher rate of fire, the KV9 has the more difficult ammunition management. With the SCW-10, you won’t be out of ammo as often in front of enemies – even though it also standardly has low shots.
Thanks to its high damage, the SCW-10 has no noticeably lower time-to-kill than the KV9 despite the lower rate of fire, which is why it is currently the strongest SMG.
SGX
What makes the SGX so strong? If you were expecting the KV9 here, I must disappoint you. The lower magazine combined with the high rate of fire and average damage could become a problem in battle royale mode if there’s really some kind of shield or armor.
The SGX can have up to 40 rounds in the magazine, is also very easy to control, and has the third-best time-to-kill at relatively high rate of fire at short distances due to average damage. Plus, you don’t have to unlock it in a complicated way.
The potential meta weapons for medium to long distance
The weapons in this category excel at medium to long distances and can be well combined with SMGs or sniper rifles to compensate for each other’s weaknesses.
SG 553R
What makes the SG so strong? The SG 553R is another all-rounder among the carbines. The mediocre rate of fire and high damage provide the highest damage-per-second value of all carbines – slightly better than the M4A1. Nevertheless, the recoil is not too high to cause difficulties at greater distances.
At the distances where you have problems with the SG, switching to a sniper rifle could be sensible.
AK-205
What makes the AK-205 so strong? The carbine has almost no recoil and is extremely easy to control. This makes it not only beginner-friendly but also extremely dangerous at longer distances – especially with ammunition that increases the headshot multiplier. The better ammunition offsets the standardly lower time-to-kill.
What weaknesses does the AK have? Due to the low time-to-kill, you are dependent on headshots and the improved headshot multiplier. This can quickly become a problem at short distances when your opponents fully exploit the shooter’s movement. The SCW-10 SMG can provide relief here.
RPKM
What makes the RPK so strong? The RPK deals a lot of damage and can eliminate enemies by headshot in Battlefield 6 with only two hits using synthetic ammunition. While it is expected that in battle royale there will be some kind of armor or shield like traditional armor plates, even then the RPK can eliminate enemies at long distances with relatively few shots due to its relatively low recoil.
The RPK could pair well with fast-firing SMGs or sniper rifles.
KORD 6P67
What makes the Kord so strong? The KORD has a high rate of fire with relatively low recoil. This makes it a solid choice even at medium to long distances.
The biggest competitors of the KORD are likely the M4A1 and M433. However, both have a stronger recoil, which you will especially feel from 50 meters. Since weapons that are played as support to a sniper rifle often need to perform at distances of 40–60 meters, the KORD has a slight edge over the M4 variants. The lower damage is offset by the fact that you can more easily hit the critical bullet.
The potential meta sniper rifle
Which sniper rifle should you play? The PSR. It is the third sniper rifle that you need to unlock through challenges.
How the sniper rifle choice was made: The significant difference among sniper rifles, aside from the rate of fire, is primarily the so-called Sweet Spot: Each sniper rifle has a different “perfect range” at which it can kill with a single hit to the torso in Battlefield 6. While we do not yet know how important the Sweet Spot will be in battle royale and whether it is possible to take down enemies with one shot from the sniper rifle, the Sweet Spot still played the biggest role in the evaluation.
What makes the PSR so strong? The Sweet Spot on the PSR is significantly further away than on the other sniper rifles. It is at about 100 to 150 meters. Thus, the PSR offers the maximum distance at which you can inflict maximum damage.
The Sweet Spot of the M2010ESR is about 80–120 meters. That is relatively close and a disadvantage for the M2010ESR. At 80 meters, it is comparatively easy to hit an opponent’s head. You are not necessarily dependent on fatal body hits there and could therefore use the PSR without having a disadvantage.
If you do happen to hit just the body, you could switch to the RPK to finish off your opponent quickly. However, with the ESR, you cannot switch to another weapon to take the last hit on your opponent from over 120 meters – that is usually just too far for precise fire from fully automatic weapons.
Why are certain weapons not included? You should find a selection of weapons here that, in my initial assessment, could be particularly strong. Consequently, the list is relatively limited and does not include 20 different weapons. Of course, there are other strong options that could also become meta in battle royale.
Other candidates for being a meta weapon are, of course, the M4A1 or the assault rifle L85A3. The KTS100 MK8 or SL-9 are other weapons that have virtually no recoil and are also worth considering. Personally, I also enjoy playing the QBZ-192 carbine. Which weapons ultimately prevail remains to be seen.
