Battlefield 5 removes duos from its Battle Royale Firestorm. This is said to be a reaction to the mode’s low popularity, the developers explained on Reddit.
Community manager Adam Freeman reaches out to fans on Reddit and explained that duos were originally intended for a limited mode, but they became quite popular.
However, popularity has since dwindled, which is why the mode was removed again.
Many players are not satisfied with this decision. They believe the mode was indeed popular and are already demanding its return.
This is how Battlefield 5 justifies the removal

“Duo received an overwhelmingly positive reaction at launch. It debuted on a weekend, which was initially meant to give just a small insight into the mode. Duo was originally developed as a time-limited mode, similar to Grind and Rush, and was meant to be temporary content in Chapter 3. When Duo was first removed, you told us you wanted it back, and we were happy to fulfill that wish. Since then, more people have returned to the squads mode, and Firestorm has been played less in the duo – So we will revert to the original plan today and have disabled the matchmaking function.”

How do fans react to this? Under the thread on Reddit, there were mostly negative comments. Players do not understand why the mode was removed. To them, the mode was popular, and numerous players report their positive experiences in duos.
As “MoreDotsOkStopDots” writes: “Is this a joke? This is the only reason I’m still playing; the same goes for my buddy. We only play duos. This time-limited stuff really has to stop. The fact that it came, was then removed, came back, and now has been removed again without a foreseeable return is just ridiculous.”
“If duos go, then I’m out too! Back to normal Battlefield. It looks like Firestorm is no longer for me,” writes “Nrussell3611.”
How does the developer respond to the criticism? The negative comments were probably a bit too much for the developers. The statements from the community manager have been deleted. Only the thread titled “Firestorm Rotations Update – So long and thanks for all the duos!” and the numerous comments can still be found.
Nevertheless, the mode remains removed from Firestorm. Dice’s decision has therefore not changed.
Will duos return? This was left open by Freeman in his statement. It was not said that the mode would never come back. So one can hope that the duo mode will be playable again soon as a limited-time mode.
