Today, on October 6th, the Early Access Beta of Battlefield 2042 starts for pre-order customers. This marks the beginning of the latest installment in the popular series. MeinMMO covers the release live for you and reports on the launch as well as potential issues.
When does it start? On Friday, October 8th at 11:00 AM, the Open Beta starts for everyone who wants to participate – no pre-order or subscription required.
Originally, the Beta was supposed to start at 9:00 AM, but this was postponed due to a two-hour server maintenance.
The Beta is accessible to all players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC. On Xbox and PlayStation, you need Xbox Live Gold or PS Plus.
The Beta runs until Sunday, October 10th at 9:00 AM. Here you can read about the first reactions from Day 1 of the Beta.
Known issues and possible workarounds:
- “Unknown Error” prevents you from starting games: Try again or disable Crossplay.
- Pre-order required despite EA Play and Xbox Game Pass: Try again; the developers are already working on a solution
- Fixes for the issues with EA Play have probably already been implemented.
- Is there Crossplay? Yes, however, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 can only play with each other. PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S are separated from older generations for technical reasons.
- Additionally, there is no way to form specific groups with players from other platforms.

Update, October 8th, 3:31 PM: Apparently, some players are facing issues with the Unknown Error, which prevents logins. Unfortunately, there is still no proper fix for this. Disabling Crossplay appears to help.
If you have noticed the rocket on the map: It is destructible and players are celebrating it.

What’s in the Beta? You will be able to test the multiplayer mode of Battlefield 2042, but only the “Conquest” mode on the “Orbital” map according to current information. You will have access to 4 of the currently presented specialists – The classes of Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042 – Leaks and Release
There were already leaks regarding the Beta of Battlefield 2042 in advance. Some participants of a preview test reportedly broke their silence and spoke with journalist Tom Henderson. In his article, it states that one of the biggest criticisms is the maps being too large.
There are also some pre-discussions regarding cheaters. It has been reported that the anti-cheat protection of Battlefield 2042 was cracked before the Beta and a cheat manufacturer already predicted that the game would be infested with cheaters.
Whether the leaks will prove true remains to be seen. Starting today, you can get your own impression of the Beta, and Battlefield 2042 is set to be released soon. The final release of the game is scheduled for November 19, 2021, after it was already postponed once.
