Battlefield 2042 has released a new short film that provides a closer look at the story of the upcoming shooter. The big reveal: it appears that Battlefield 2042 takes place in the same world as Battlefield 4, as the main character plays a role again. The community is ecstatic.
What is this short film about? The short work is simply titled ‘Exodus’ and outlines the story leading up to the events in Battlefield 2042. After the collapse of the world, many people find themselves without citizenship and become “No-Pats”.
The leader of this group wants to secure a mysterious briefcase containing information, but is interrupted. Just moments later, it becomes clear: the leader is Kimble “Irish” Graves, the protagonist from Battlefield 4.
He encounters his old comrade Clayton “Pac” Pakowski in the scene, whom he captures to take him to the refugee boat he is traveling on.
However, shortly thereafter, an attack occurs where soldiers target the boat and aim to transfer the information to a suspected terrorist known only as “Oz”. Graves fears that this will trigger World War III and tries to prevent it – but fails.
After the data is sent, he sees only one way to prevent the war: to get involved.
Short film features main character from Battlefield 4, creates excitement
How is the short film received? Already after just 30 minutes, the video has gathered over 56,000 likes and has been viewed over 235,000 times; after an hour, the video stands at 70,000 likes and 372,000 views.
However, the premiere had a week of buildup, and the community has generated a lot of hype accordingly. Among fans, especially the appearance of Irish is a “goosebumps” moment, as noted by SnekuL_Xfire11 (via YouTube.com).
Irish is more than just a recurring character; he means even more for the upcoming shooter.
What does Irish mean for Battlefield 2042? From the main character, the community deduces that Battlefield 2042 takes place in the same timeline as Battlefield 4, thus a few years after the events there.
This also includes that the choices players made at the end of Battlefield 4 have now become canon. In the last mission, you have the choice to either sacrifice Irish or the Chinese agent Hannah. Apparently, Hannah was the more popular choice, as she does not appear in the new short film, but Irish does.
Irish himself is no longer just a Marine in Battlefield 2042, but the commander of the No-Pat ship “Exodus”. He will also be one of the playable specialists who can provide mobile cover and counter explosive projectiles, as well as gain armor for kills.
Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S; a beta will take place in advance.
