After the plan for March was presented last week, Battlefield 2042 actually intended to bring a scoreboard by the end of January. However, according to developer DICE, this has now been postponed. It was revealed when the feature will come that fans have been wishing for since the release.
What is this all about? Among many other features missing from older installments, the scoreboard is perhaps the most vocally demanded feature by veterans and fans since the release of Battlefield 2042.
There was a full-blown fan uprising to pressure DICE to deliver the feature immediately after release. Numerous fan designs circulated to “show DICE how it is done”. Now, nearly two and a half months later, there is still no scoreboard.
While the list of missing features continues to grow, the scoreboard has become a symbol of the downfall of Battlefield 2042 in the eyes of many fans.
Why is this such a desired feature? For many players, the scoreboard is one of the most fundamental standard features that every multiplayer shooter should have in some form. In earlier Battlefield installments, the feature was highly appreciated and utilized by fans because matches can often last longer and an overview of the game’s progress outside the usual HUD elements makes sense.
Is there currently none in Battlefield 2042? At least not as players envision it. The current version can hardly be called a scoreboard as it only shows the stats of the player’s squad and not much of that:
DICE initially intended to change that and deliver the feature in the update on January 19. However, it was missing there as well and was supposed to come in February with patch 3.2. But now, this update has been postponed again, which means the scoreboard will be delayed once more.
Battlefield 2042 delays scoreboard for the second time, now expected in March
When is the scoreboard finally expected? According to the Battlefield account on Twitter, the scoreboard is supposed to be introduced with the already announced next update 3.2 at the beginning of March.
In the meantime, DICE has revised the feature again, and it now shows more features. A screenshot from the Twitter account has already presented an early version of it:
What should the scoreboard offer? The screenshot reveals some features of the scoreboard:
- Overview of the game
- Player and bot lists
- Player information
- Progress on awards
- Active players and squad members
- Scores divided into general scores, kills, revives, captures, etc.
This is ultimately supposed to give players a better overview of their performance and the events in a match. However, several changes can still come before March; you are not seeing the final version of the feature here.
The reactions to the delay are understandably negative. Many players are increasingly losing patience with Battlefield 2042. They criticize that many of the planned updates should already be in the game. (via reddit)
If the scoreboard is supposed to come in March, three and a half months will have passed, and so far there have been no updates to improve the mood in the community.
It remains to be seen whether the upcoming updates will improve this.
In addition, it’s not only the updates that have been postponed. The first season, which was supposed to start at the end of 2022, has also been postponed until summer.
This has further worsened the mood of the players; many were hoping for new content that could make the game a bit more interesting for them.
However, the developers promised to not give up on Battlefield 2042 despite the rough start and to do everything possible to implement player feedback and save the shooter.
