As of today, December 2, the major update 3 of Battlefield 2042 is available. This accidentally brought new skins into the game. However, some players are really angry about these new cosmetics. Why this is the case, you can find out here at MeinMMO.
What are these skins? The criticism mainly revolves around the “Father Winter” skin for the specialist Boris. With this skin, he wears a Christmas coat, like Santa Claus.
Fans have now humorously dubbed this skin “Santa Boris”, though not very kindly. The skin “Great Outdoors” for Mackay also stands out, as he looks like some sort of cowboy.
The skins were likely only unintentionally in the game, as they were quickly removed again. They probably belong to the pre-season, which officially has no date yet but is mentioned in the skin description. Nevertheless, fans were already able to take screenshots. (via reddit)

Players feel reminded of Fortnite, skins do not fit Battlefield
What is the problem with these skins? Especially Santa Boris is being torn apart by players. In the subreddit for Battlefield 2042, there are already numerous shocked voices regarding this skin.
Critics claim that these skins do not fit into a Battlefield at all and could rather find their home in other games. One person is already writing about “Fortnite 2042” (via reddit), some even initially mistook Santa Boris for a meme.
For many, the skin is a bad joke and many feel validated in the assumption that the specialists are only in the game to make money with cosmetics.
However, it is still not clear how the pre-season will work and whether you need to buy the battle pass to unlock these skins.
Either way, the new skins are not going down well with numerous players, especially in view of the technical state of the game. Even the major update 3 did not fix all problems and even introduced new ones.
Numerous fans believe that one should first address the bugs and stability of the game, instead of incorporating new skins (via reddit).
Update 3 is the biggest patch so far, brings weekly missions
This is what to expect with update 3: The patch revises some areas of the game and also brings new features.
- There are bug fixes and gameplay changes
- The update offers “Quality of Life” improvements that should make your gaming experience easier.
- The UI will be adjusted.
- The portal mode will also be revised, as it has massive problems.
One of the biggest new features is the weekly missions. In the week after the update, these weekly missions will be unlocked. You will then receive 3 of them each week – and each completion will earn you XP. If you complete them all, you will receive a special cosmetic at the end.
These missions may already be part of the leaked pre-season. However, there is still no confirmation on that.
