EA has spoken about the future of Battlefield 2042 in a blog post and announced that there will be no new seasons.
Battlefield 2042 is the latest installment in the popular shooter series and was released on November 19, 2021. However, upon release, the game faced significant criticism from fans, and thus Battlefield 2042 was torn apart by players on Steam.
Since then, EA DICE has been working on making amends and trying to turn the shooter into the game that fans of the series desired. To achieve this, the developers introduced new content, with the major seasons playing a key role.

No new seasons for Battlefield 2042
What does the future hold for the shooter? Battlefield General Manager Byron Beede provided an update on the future of Battlefield 2042 in a blog post on the official Electronic Arts website.
The post states that it is now time to shift focus from the present to the future. This means, Byron adds, that Season 7 will be the final season of Battlefield 2042. Nevertheless, the shooter will continue to receive updates after Season 7, including new modes, events, and maintenance work.
While we have enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons with additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to look ahead to the future. This means that Season 7 will be the final season for Battlefield 2042. After the end of Season 7, we will continue to support the game with new challenges, events, modes, and of course ongoing maintenance, but we will not offer any official seasons anymore.
We know that this news may be disappointing. However, when we looked at what the future of the series requires, it became clear that it is time for us to shift our resources and focus to fully dedicate ourselves to what comes next.

Additionally, Beede announced that Motive Studio will now set up a team focused on working on Battlefield. Motive Studio has previously developed Star Wars: Squadrons and the remake of Dead Space.
Battlefield’s player numbers are better than a year ago
What is the current state of Battlefield 2042? Since the much-criticized release, there have been a number of updates that brought new content such as weapons, vehicles, and maps to the game, as well as some revisions to existing content – including the class system and maps like Hourglass.
With free weekends and discounts, new players were also attracted who did not want to pay the full price for the shooter. As a result, Battlefield 2042 briefly had 100,000 players on Steam.
Currently, Battlefield 2042 averages 15,525 players on Steam over the past 30 days. This is an average of 7,000 more players than in April 2023 (via SteamCharts).
The Season 7, which started on March 18, 2024, once again brought Battlefield 2042 a new map as well as new weapons, including the AK5C (assault rifle) and the SCZ-3 (submachine gun). Also included was the new rocket launcher Predator SRAW.
