The development teams from DICE, Ripple Effect, and Criterion have together with EA postponed the release of the shooter Battlefield 2042 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series). The new release date is now November 19, 2021. The delay is attributed to the difficult working conditions caused by the Corona crisis. However, there will be an open beta.
This is being postponed:
- Originally, the release of Battlefield 2042 was planned for October 22, 2021
- The new release date is November 19, 2021 – about a month later. Both dates are Fridays.
Why is Battlefield 2042 being delayed? The involved developer teams and EA say in a joint statement on Twitter that the team has encountered unexpected difficulties. They attribute it to the Corona pandemic. The pandemic has posed “unexpected challenges” for the team.
They had actually hoped that the teams could manage just fine as the release approached, but now must realize that it is not going to work. Especially considering the size and direction of the game.
The teams have been working hard from home, but now believe that more time is needed to realize the vision for Battlefield 2042.
They mention that it is still necessary to put “the finishing touches” on Battlefield 2042.
An Open Beta could also be postponed – Date not yet known
When can one play Battlefield 2042? EA intends to provide information regarding an open beta in September 2021.
It was previously assumed that the open beta for Battlefield 2042 would start on September 22: This date was never confirmed.
Following the postponement of the release, it is now quite possible that the open beta could come at a different time than initially thought.
