When does the Early Access to Battlefield 2042 start? The Early Access phase for Battlefield 2042 begins on November 12, 2021. As of now, you can start the game from 9:00 AM once it is downloaded.
How to participate in Early Access: You must have pre-ordered either the Gold or Ultimate Edition, or be a subscriber of EA Play – this way you can play earlier for 1 €. Those who do not meet these requirements have to wait until the actual release.
To avoid losing playtime with the download, it might be worth downloading the game via preload beforehand.
Preload for Battlefield 2042 – When does it start?
These are the preload times: Depending on the edition and platform, there are different timings for when the preload begins for you. This was indicated by the official Battlefield channel on Twitter.
- For Xbox Series X | S, the preload with early access is already available.
- PlayStation and PC players with access to the early access phase can start downloading on November 10. However, there are also differences here.
- For PS4 and PS5, the preload starts at 00:00 local time on November 10.
- For PC, the preload starts at 7:00 PM German time.
The preload is supposed to be available if you have pre-ordered the game or have an EA Play subscription. However, there are reports from players that the preload does not work with EA Play. Currently, there is still no reliable solution to this.
But how large is the download? At least for consoles, we know how much storage space you should keep free:
Download size of Battlefield 2042
This is the download size on PS5: According to the well-known Twitter account “PlayStation Game Size”, which regularly reveals the download sizes of new games in advance, Battlefield 2042 will surprisingly require very little storage space on PS5.
- The shooter is expected to require 42.717 GB at launch.
- This does not include the Day-1 patch, which is expected to be released on November 19.
- The download size may therefore increase again, depending on the extent of the patch.
Download size for Xbox: The sizes for the Xbox consoles are expected to look as follows (via talkesport):
- Xbox Series X|S: 51.42 GB
- Xbox One: 27.6 GB
What about the PC? The size for PC is not yet known. Typically, the download sizes should be in a similar range.
On which platforms will Battlefield 2042 be released? The shooter will be released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
What do we know about the Day-1 patch? In the open beta of Battlefield 2042, players discovered numerous bugs, glitches, and other technical issues.
Some of these have already been addressed directly by developer DICE, confirming that some of them should be fixed at launch with the Day-1 patch. Here you can find 5 of them.
The initial reactions to the download size were positive, and many players are now hoping that the Day-1 patch will not significantly increase the storage requirements.
Most people assume that Battlefield 2042 will quickly cross the 50 GB mark after its release. Most shooters generally require large amounts of storage space.
The most prominent example of this is likely CoD Warzone, which occupies over 100 GB. The upcoming CoD Vanguard is also expected to be quite large. There are ways to save storage space at release.
