The game mode Battlefield 2042 Rush is in the game since the major update 3. It was well received right away but has always had a catch – Rush was time-limited. The developers are now responding to fan feedback and extending the mode. Thus, Rush can also be played over the Christmas holidays. However, fans demand: Make the game mode permanent.
What is the game mode? With update 3, the mode “Battlefield 2042 Rush” was added to the official Battlefield Portal playlist. This was the first time the classic game mode was playable on the maps of Battlefield 2042.
Rush is best understood as a smaller version of Breakthrough. Instead of 128 players, here 32 players (16 per team) compete against each other. On smaller versions of the gigantic maps, 2 teams fight for sectors on the map. Attackers try to plant bombs to take over map control; defenders want to prevent them from doing so.
Rush first appeared in this form in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Immediately, it became the flagship of the game and a new favorite mode in the community.
How do fans find the game mode? The Rush version on the maps and with the specialists from Battlefield 2042 was immediately well received. However, there has been a catch from the beginning: The game mode is time-limited. Rush was originally supposed to be playable only until December 14.
Since then, fans have been demanding on Reddit and Twitter that Rush be made a permanent game mode. A user on Reddit said, “The fact that Rush 2042 is not a permanent game mode in All-Out-Warfare is one of the dumbest decisions [the developers] could make” (via reddit).
How are the developers reacting? Ripple Effect Studios are the developers responsible for Battlefield Portal. Their Senior Design Director, Justin Wiebe, responded to fan wishes in a tweet:
“After hearing the passionate reactions from all of you that you want Rush 2042 to be in the game longer, we wanted to let you know that it will no longer be removed on the planned date.”
Fans are happy but want Rush to stay in the game forever
On Reddit, the excitement over this announcement is initially so great that Wiebe’s statement was misread. Although Wiebe only says that Rush will no longer be removed at the planned time, fans mistakenly believed: The mode will stay forever (via reddit). However, this statement was never made.
2042 Rush is expected to remain playable over the holidays. So it is to be expected that the mode will be removed again this year – at least according to current plans.
Even if fans are happy about the extension: The community’s wish was for the game to stay forever and be integrated into the main game.
- @ItheGuardiansI on Twitter says: “Please just make it permanent. I would even be happy if you occasionally switched from 32 to 64 players to make it a bit crazier, but please just keep the mode.” (via Twitter)
- @Bigsweatysock tweets: “Just leave it in, period. It’s the only mode worth playing.” (via Twitter)
- @Crille8900 complains: “I don’t understand. Rush has been a part of Battlefield for a long time. And now it is only limited. WTF, Dice? The game needs more options, not everyone wants to play Conquest and Breakthrough every day.” (via Twitter)
A overwhelmingly large part of the community wishes for their favorite mode to be permanently integrated into the game. It is still unclear whether the developers of Battlefield 2042 will fulfill this wish beyond Christmas.
Rush bypasses the biggest problems of the main game
Why is the game mode so popular? The Rush version on the maps and with the specialists from Battlefield 2042 was immediately well received. This is also due to the fact that the game mode bypasses fundamental problems of the main game:
- In Rush, the too large maps are reduced. This leads to more action in smaller spaces.
- The considered too high number of players is reduced from 128 to 32. For similar reasons, the also limited new game mode with only 64 players is very popular.
- Battlefield 2042 Rush bypasses most major problems of Battlefield Portal.
Battlefield 2042 Rush was a beacon of hope for the community upon its introduction. The game mode was a sign for many that the game can indeed be fun – under the right circumstances. Now they hope that the many developers of Battlefield 2042 will recognize this too. And for the long term.
The Battlefield community is also unanimous regarding the specialists. In our survey, we collected almost 5,000 of your votes and established a consensus:
Should Battlefield 2042 remove the specialists? Almost 80% of you agree
