Battlefield 2042 set a new player record last weekend, despite the fact that the Open Beta of CoD MW3 was running simultaneously.
What was the situation with Battlefield 2042 recently? Actually, Battlefield 2042 hadn’t had a special status on Steam recently. In September, an average of 5,182 players were playing the 2021 shooter. The peak was 11,843 concurrent players.
The numbers for Battlefield 2042 looked similar in the preceding months: During the summer months, the shooter couldn’t gather more than 9,000 players on average.
Last weekend, the once-celebrated franchise achieved something like a small breakthrough: Battlefield 2042 averaged over 10,000 active players on Steam since Friday afternoon, peaking at a strong 101,362.
With this, Battlefield 2042 has surpassed the record of the release month November 2021. At that time, there were 100,590 players at peak (via SteamCharts).

The success of Battlefield coincides with the CoD beta
What does this have to do with CoD MW3? Battlefield and Call of Duty have been fierce rivals in the shooter scene for years. For many fans, it was normal to have to choose one of the two games. You were either a CoD player or a Battlefield player.
However, both shooters currently have a difficult standing. Both Battlefield 2042 and CoD MW2 didn’t receive well from fans, many players are dissatisfied and demand change.
This makes the current development of the two genre giants even more important: Call of Duty is about to release the latest installment, Modern Warfare 3, and opened the gates to the Open Beta of MW3 for all platforms last weekend.
In contrast, Battlefield 2042 is still working on its comeback and wants to show how the shooter has developed in the past two years with Season 6. Whether Battlefield 2042 has truly achieved its comeback and is now playable, you can also find out on MeinMMO:
