Battlefield 2042 is having major difficulties, which are causing even bigger issues. The shooter is continually losing players. In one region, a tyrannical person can even decide who can play the game. MeinMMO tells you more.
The catastrophic state of Battlefield 2042 is also affecting player numbers. The shooter attracted 100,000 Steam players to the servers at launch, but now there are only about 4,000 – and the trend is falling (via Steamcharts).
Particularly embarrassing: The predecessor Battlefield V has had significantly more players for months – currently about 30,000 players on Steam. This is a slap in the face for EA and DICE.
This situation has also had curious consequences in some parts of the world. In South Africa, so few people are playing Battlefield 2042 that a single tyrant is terrorizing the player base in the entire region.
‘A single person in my country is preventing me from playing Battlefield 2042’
What happened? On reddit, user vandiedakaf described the curious situation in South Africa. Since the regular matchmaking takes too long and doesn’t find good connections (if at all), players have to resort to the portal mode.
In this mode, servers are opened by the players themselves, and others can join as they please. However, the server creator also has complete admin rights:
For about a week now, you can only find a game in South Africa if you search for games in Portal. The principle is pretty much: First come, first served. There simply aren’t enough players to fill multiple servers, so the first person who hosts a server for the night has pretty much full control over the game for the rest of the players in the region.
What is the problem? Unfortunately, this one person, in the words of vandiedakaf, resembles a tyrant. The admin of the only server in the region, where enough players can be found, is said to be easily provoked. He apparently bans players for trivial matters without warning:
Unfortunately, the person who has been moderating the games in recent nights is a bit thin-skinned and has started banning people just for swearing. He also banned me because I confronted him about his power trips (I didn’t swear and didn’t even receive a warning).
This means that banned players can no longer use the only server where the game can still really be played. The one tyrannical admin thus has complete control over the player base in the region. In the words of the reddit user: ‘He is holding an entire region hostage.’
Community reacts with gallows humor and shaking heads
In the comments under the reddit post, there are very different reactions. Some find the situation hilarious, while others find it embarrassing.
- IronWizard45 agrees with the post: ‘I also come from South Africa. I quit playing in December, not by choice, but simply because I physically can’t unless it’s through Portal.’ (via reddit)
- Casper_BC says: ‘I really laughed out loud at how absurd this is. He’s like the king.’ (via reddit)
- irsute74 sees it as an advantage: ‘He saved you from playing that garbage. He’s a hero, not a dictator.’ (via reddit)
- GenitalMotors says: ‘You can’t even make this stuff up. You see this in games that are years old. Not in a AAA multiplayer title that has only been on the market for 3 – 4 months.’ (via reddit)
What do you think about the situation surrounding Battlefield 2042? Do you find it sad or hilarious? Do you believe EA and DICE can still turn things around? Or do you think the game shouldn’t be saved? Let us know in the comments.
Not only in South Africa are players dissatisfied with Battlefield 2042. Even those who can play the game without issues feel betrayed by EA and DICE. That’s why a petition is currently gaining traction, which states: The developers of Battlefield 2042 have lied to us, we want our money back!
