Just a week before the Early Access launch of Battlefield 2042, fans are discussing whether the online shooter offers enough content. The cause for this is a leak of the complete weapon list on Reddit: Fans feel there are too few “new weapons” in Battlefield 2042.
The Battlefield games traditionally stand out from the competition with larger dimensions of player experience: Bigger maps, more players, more weapons.
In Battlefield 2042, while there are actually even more players on even larger maps than before, leaks show that the selection of weapons has apparently shrunk significantly.
Leaks show few weapons at launch
This leads to disappointment: Reddit user aaronfrogger gained early access to the game earlier than EA and DICE had planned. This allowed him to take a screenshot of the supposed weapon collection of the game at launch, which he posted online. This list shows a total of 22 weapons, including only 4 assault rifles or submachine guns.
Why do people feel this is disappointing? On the launch of Battlefield 4, players had access to over 70 weapons, including 11 assault rifles. Now there are only a total of 22 weapons.
According to the current information, thanks to the Battlefield Portal game mode, which is very well received by fans, more weapons from Battlefield 3 are playable in Battlefield 2042 than weapons from Battlefield 2042 (via BravoIntel on Twitter).

How is the community reacting? Battlefield players love the variety that older games offered thanks to the number of weapons. Accordingly, fans are disappointed about the leaks:

Where do fans see hope? Not all fans are so upset about this news. Twitter user @PillzSufrie believes that many weapons in previous Battlefield games are just slightly different versions of other rifles.

Also through Battlefield Portal players have numerous guns from the older titles available, which they can add to the selectable equipment of the matches as needed.
Will more come? According to industry insider Tom Henderson, there are supposedly 6 – 8 new weapons per mode with each season planned. However, this information also comes from a leak and is therefore not officially confirmed. EA or DICE has not yet made any concrete statements about the contents of the seasons or the battle pass.
