Battlefield 2042 will be a live service game. This means: After the release, the shooter will be continuously expanded with new content. Part of the live service will be Battle Passes and Seasons designed to constantly give you reasons to play.
While there are currently no details on the exact content, there have already been some leaks. However, the prices are still unknown. There are experiences from games that use a similar system.
What’s included in the Battle Pass? According to EA, you will only be able to unlock cosmetic items like outfits or weapon skins through the Battle Pass.
What these skins and outfits will look like is currently uncertain. However, EA has already presented the progression system of Battlefield 2042 and showcased some examples of unlockable cosmetics (via ea.com):
Battlefield 2042 Battle Pass – Costs and Contents
How much does a Battle Pass cost? No official price has been stated yet. In other multiplayer shooters, a Battle Pass usually costs around 10 euros. It is likely that Battlefield 2042 will be in a similar range.
Based on the price for the Year-1 Pass, we can also conclude that 10 euros is a realistic price for the Battle Pass.
The Year-1 Pass includes the four Seasons of Battlefield 2042, each of which comes with a Battle Pass. The total package costs 40 euros, without extra content.
This is how the Battle Passes work: The Battle Passes have a paid and a free path. This way you can unlock new content without spending real money. However, if you really want everything, you will need to purchase the Battle Passes.
- There will be a total of four different Battle Passes in the first year.
- Each Battle Pass runs for a period of 3 months.
- It is only about cosmetic gimmicks and similar items.
- Each Battle Pass is supposed to offer 100 levels.
The Battle Passes are always released together with a new Season, which brings additional content for everyone for free. All expansions of the actual game will be released as part of the Seasons, separate from the Battle Pass.
If you purchase the Gold or Ultimate Editions, you will receive a Year-1 Pass that includes all four confirmed Battle Passes. We have put together an overview of the prices and contents for you. Battlefield 2042 Seasons with new Maps?
This is what we know so far about the Seasons: There is hardly any official information about it. Industry insider Tom Henderson has, however, published a leak some time ago that presents the supposed contents. It is said that in every Season there will be new specialists, maps, and more.
What’s included in a Season? According to Henderson, the following contents are expected:
- 1 new specialist – At launch, there will be 10 specialists
- 2 new maps for All-Out Warfare and Hazard Zone
- 2 new maps for Battlefield Portal
- An update for Hazard Zone
- 6 to 8 new weapons for each mode
- 2 to 3 new vehicles for each mode
Seasons will indeed be released with all content for free. The only thing that will cost you money is the paid part of the Battle Pass.
Keep in mind that this content comes from a leak and has not been officially confirmed. From EA or DICE, we have not yet received more detailed information about the content of the Seasons or the Battle Pass.
When is Battlefield 2042 released? The release is on November 19 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4.
When does the first Season start? According to EA, the Seasons will start at the beginning of next year. So don’t expect it before 2022.
