The open beta for Battlefield 2042 is set to take place in September. However, there is hardly any information available about it. So, we are presenting a selection of the most important leaks and what they reveal about the shooter.
When is the open beta coming? Officially, September is the only specified release period so far. According to the well-known insider Tom Henderson, it is expected to start on September 22 with early access.
What content the beta will offer is currently unknown. While the exact release date for the open beta has not even been specified officially, there has already been an alpha playtest. This has already brought some information about Battlefield 2042 to light.
What kind of test was this? The alpha started on August 12 and ran until August 17. The US site “VideoGamesChronicle” reported that the playtest reportedly took place over a total of 6 sessions – 5 sessions of 3 hours each and a session of 9 hours (via videogameschronicle). However, there were apparently issues that led to the extension of the alpha.
The alpha was primarily meant to gather feedback on the gameplay loop, test the performance of BF2042, and assess the technical stability.
Despite the NDA, there were numerous leaks about the map, graphics, weapons, modes, and other content after the alpha. Therefore, we have compiled the most important and interesting information from the alpha for you and present it in a list.
Data miner finds information about the “Hazard Zone” mode
What is Hazard Zone? First of all: EA has not officially introduced Hazard Zone yet. The information comes from data miner temporyal, who extracted the information from the alpha files. But even if something about the mode should change before release – you can already get a rough idea of what to expect.
- Hazard Zone will reportedly utilize a large portion of the game’s gameplay mechanics.
- You collect “Hazard Zone currency” and can buy gadgets, weapons, and equipment for matches.
- So you can probably also take your progress into the next Hazard rounds.
- At the beginning of a round, you land on the map with a “Little Bird” helicopter.
- The leaker compares the flow of a match to games like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown.
- You will gather information and extract yourself at the end of a match with the collected data.
So there will likely be PvEvP elements, and you will be fighting not only against other players but also against NPCs.
You are expected to gather information and move across maps divided into various zones and areas with enemies. You collect equipment and so-called “Tactical Upgrades”. These will likely include things like spotting assistance, faster healing, and other aids.
According to the data miner, there will also be ways to secure your loot and take it into the next match. However, it seems you can also lose all your equipment.
Which maps can the mode be played on? This is currently unknown. The data miner was only able to find the map “Orbital” for the mode. However, it is likely that the mode will run on more than one map.
Insider leaks system requirements for Battlefield 2042
What does your PC need to be capable of? Although there is still no official information about the system requirements for Battlefield 2042, Tom Henderson, a well-known industry insider, has already leaked the system requirements before the start of the alpha test.
These specify the minimum and maximum requirements. Again, note: These are not official yet and may change in the future. Nevertheless, they are a useful guideline for the hardware demands of Battlefield 2042.
Your PC should at least have the following:
| Operating System (OS) | Windows 10, 64-bit |
| Processor (CPU) | AMD FX-8350 Intel Core i5 6600K |
| Memory (RAM) | 8 GB |
| Graphics Card Memory | 4 GB |
| Graphics Card (GPU) | AMD Radeon RX 560 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti |
| DirectX | 12 |
| Internet Connection | 512 KBPS or faster |
Your PC should be able to do the following, according to the developers’ recommendations:
| Operating System (OS) | Windows 10, 64-bit |
| Processor (CPU) | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Intel Core i7 4790K |
| Memory (RAM) | 16 GB |
| Graphics Card Memory | 8 GB |
| Graphics Card (GPU) | AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 |
| DirectX | 12 |
| Internet Connection | 512 KBPS or faster |
However, it is still unclear what graphics options will be available. Initial feedback from the alpha also suggests that there may be performance issues even with the recommended hardware.
This has already raised concerns among some fans. However, EA assures that the alpha does not reflect the technical status of the release version.
Various types of ammunition and magazines for primary and secondary weapons
The data miner temporyal has not only found information about the Hazard mode. He also apparently discovered that there could be various types of ammunition.
It could be possible that your M44 pistol comes with explosive ammunition. Or you equip your Vector submachine gun with ultrasonic ammunition, which is characterized by being particularly quiet. The downside, however, lies in the penetration power, as the projectiles fly significantly slower.
Tempoyal published a list of likely ammunition types. Here are the translations:
- Ultrasonic ammunition
- Incendiary ammunition
- Explosive ammunition
- Armor-piercing ammunition
- Range ammunition
- Various shotgun types for short, medium, and long distances
- Shotgun shells
- Arrow ammunition
There are expected to be light, medium, and heavy magazine extensions as well.
Weapons and gadgets in action – recoil and reload animations leaked
Here’s what the leak shows: In a roughly 5-minute gameplay clip from the alpha, 11 weapon models and 4 gadgets that were playable in the alpha playtest of Battlefield 2042 can be seen.
- Some familiar faces from previous Battlefield installments can be seen.
- For example, the Vector submachine gun or the SCAR-H assault rifle are featured in the video.
- A small portion of the Orbital map can also be seen.
You can watch the video here:
For some, not only the weapons but also the four shown gadgets could be particularly interesting.
These are the special items that can be used by the four specialists in Battlefield 2042:
- One gadget functions like a kind of grappling hook that can be used to swing to elevated positions and across chasms.
- There is a type of healing pistol that seemingly fires healing arrows.
- Additionally, there is a stationary turret that automatically targets enemies.
- There is also again a kind of remote-controlled drone.
We have summarized how the specialists function in an overview for you. Recently, there is also a new gameplay video about the specialists that has caused some fans to be upset.
New damage types in Battlefield 2042
Another leak from temporyal indicates that Battlefield 2042 will have various new damage types. (via Twitter)
What are these damage types? According to his tweet, he has encountered objects placed on the map in the alpha data sets. These are destructible thanks to Battlefield 2042’s destruction engine.
For example, there are destructible cryo tanks that deal cold damage when you shoot at them. There will reportedly be five different damage types:
- Cold
- Electricity
- Storm
- Toxic
- Radiation
Which sources cause this damage is not entirely clear yet. However, there will likely be various elements on the maps that you can use tactically. Additionally, there will be certain events during matches that will also likely relate to the damage types.
For example, a gigantic tornado may occur, which can probably be associated with storm damage:
Apparently, there will also be a type of halon sprinkler system that players can activate themselves to poison opponents. How these damage types can be used otherwise remains to be seen.
Perhaps there will already be some possibilities in the beta to use the new systems tactically.
What can we expect from the beta? There is still no detailed information about this either. The alpha test had a limited scope and was limited to one map.
It is quite possible that the open beta will be more extensive and offer more than one map. Whether levolution will also play a role in the beta is also unknown.
