This video mixes a large portion of seriousness and sadness into the otherwise more “cool” Battlefield 1.
The World War shooter Battlefield 1 is known as a cool game that is famous for fun and excitement in individual battles. Despite the setting during World War I, a depressing atmosphere rarely arises, at least in multiplayer mode. This is probably intentional to ensure gaming enjoyment. The story in single-player mode, on the other hand, often prompts reflection.
However, if you overlay the moving images of the World War shooter with melancholic music, you suddenly see the game in a completely different light.
When Beethoven meets Battlefield 1
Overlaying scenes from video games with well-known music is not a new invention but a typical stylistic device for accompanying trailers and exciting gameplay. Even for funny videos like Seven Nation Army with in-game sounds from Battlefield 1, well-known tracks are used. However, Battlefield 1 deals with a serious setting with many war facts as a backdrop.
The YouTuber ShenaniganSam uploaded a video that points to the background of the game with fitting music. Under the title “War is Hell,” you see air combat and tanks. But also soldiers who see their fallen allies and friends and gaze thoughtfully over the battlefield. The Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven suitably underscores the scenes from Battlefield 1.
This video once again makes it clear how important or decisive a soundtrack can be in video games. Because compared to the original trailer of Battlefield 1, a different atmosphere arises in the video by ShenaniganSam. Here it is about thoughtful, calm music. The official trailer, on the other hand, indulges in an action style. Here you can see the official Battlefield 1 trailer:
