The upcoming shooter Battlefield 1 relies heavily on realism when reloading weapons. Repeating rifles are reloaded correctly.
In the “World War I” shooter Battlefield 1, many weapons are loaded with 5-round ammo clips. If you completely empty a rifle that holds 10 rounds, you can refill it with two 5-round clips.
This “new reloading” also means that you must reload each cartridge individually if you fire less than 5 shots. For example, if you fire 9 shots at your enemies, you need to reload one 5-round clip first and then four cartridges individually.
With this, DICE likely aims to prevent players from constantly mashing the reload button to run around with a full magazine. In BF1, you need to think about when you want to reload.
In Battlefield 1, repeating rifles are reloaded correctly
The Reddit user redletterday94 made an interesting discovery in a video by Jackfrags: Apparently, Battlefield 1 will be the first Battlefield and one of the first shooters overall to feature a correct reload animation for repeating rifles. Now, when thinking about repeating rifles with internal magazines, you also consider the cartridge in the chamber.
You can see this detail in the following gif in slow motion: In Battlefield 1, when pulling back the bolt, the cartridge in the chamber flies out – unless the rifle has been completely emptied. The soldier elegantly catches the cartridge in the reload animation and returns it to the internal magazine.
According to Alan Kertz from DICE, there was a long discussion about the necessity of such a detail. However, a colleague who is a hunter himself and is responsible for the sound of BF1 insisted on it and did not back down. Eventually, the animation was implemented – and the players promptly discovered it in the gameplay footage shown so far.
Battlefield 1 will be released on October 21 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Here we discuss the absence of the French army in the multiplayer of the “Battlefield 1” main game. Is France so important that it has to be left out? Really?
