The new Premium Friends feature in Battlefield 1 allows players without DLC to play the content of the expansion for free. However, not “all” content is free.
In Battlefield 1, a new system is being tested starting today, allowing players who haven’t purchased DLC to access the content of the expansions. This system is called Premium Friends and has been requested by the community in similar form. We will show you how the Premium Friends system works and what advantages and disadvantages it has.
Premium-Friends: Play with friends on Premium maps
To enhance cooperation in Battlefield 1, the developers at DICE take a lot of feedback from the fans and the community of Battlefield 1. Recently, it has been noted more often that players with a Premium Pass would like to see more players on the Premium maps. After considerable deliberation, the team concluded that they would introduce Premium Friends.
If you own a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass , you can invite friends to the new maps. When you invite players to a group, the group receives the status “Premium-activated” and every player in this party can play on all maps, regardless of whether they purchased the content or not.
This allows all players with a friend who owns a Premium Pass to play together on the new DLC maps without being excluded. This has the advantage of having more players on the new maps and reducing wait times. However, not all content is shared with non-Premium friends.
Premium Friends – Exclusive content only for Pass owners
Some experiences of an expansion remain exclusive to players who own the Premium Pass in Battlefield 1.
- If your group is “Premium-activated”, only players with the BF1 Premium Pass or owners of the expansion receive experience points for the maps belonging to the expansion. The XP for all other players is saved and distributed later if the player decides to get a Premium Pass.
- Only the owners of the relevant expansion or a BF1 Premium Pass can spawn with vehicles or weapons specifically related to the expansion.
- Progress on unique medals or codices of an expansion is also withheld from players with the BF1 Premium Pass or owners of the expansion.
During the current Battlefest, you might already be able to try out this Premium Friends feature. In the coming days, the developers are paying close attention to your feedback to further improve this feature.
