Today the open beta of Battlefield 1 has started – The high player influx is heavily straining the servers.
After the beta for “Battlefield 1” insiders started yesterday, the open beta for all players began today. This test version already generated a lot of discussion beforehand, as playing does not require a PS Plus subscription, but does require Xbox Live Gold. However, this requirement does not mean that “few” players want to try out the open beta of Battlefield 1. The high number of players is apparently causing problems for the servers.
“You have lost Connection to the EA Servers”
Many beta testers already received this error message today. In the “Battlefield 1″ subreddit and in the official forums, many players are complaining about disconnects and server problems. This is not uncommon during an open beta. Thousands of players are trying to access the servers and query information at the same time, which can easily lead to problems.
Some Reddit users are reporting that restarting the Origin software helped fix the error. There have been hardly any issues on PC – The “You have lost connection to the EA Servers” error message frequently occurred for PS4 players. Other players received/are receiving the message “not logged in“.
This may be a DDOS attack by the PoodleCorp group, which has acknowledged the problems on Twitter. The same group was presumably responsible for server problems in GTA 5 Online earlier this month. Whether they are actually responsible for the server problems this time or if it’s just overwhelmed servers is hard to judge. However, some players are already reporting that they can log in again.
