These are the different playable factions in the multiplayer of Battlefield 1.
In total, there should be 6 playable factions in the multiplayer of the new Battlefield 1, which players can choose from. Battlefield confirmed the following factions at launch via Twitter: Great Britain, the German Empire, Austria-Hungary, Italy, the Ottoman Empire, and the USA. Additionally, there will be no female soldiers in the multiplayer mode.
At war, but not in the game
Although France and also Russia were not insignificant war factions in World War 1, players will not be able to play them, at least at the launch of Battlefield 1, in the multiplayer mode. Russia and France both suffered heavy casualties during the First World War. However, it is conceivable that the two factions might be added to the game later through a DLC or a patch, although this has not been officially confirmed.
It is now confirmed that the French army will be added in a DLC.
No women in Battlefield 1 – “Because boys would find it unrealistic”
In the multiplayer mode of Battlefield 1, there will be no female soldiers. According to former DICE programmer Amandine Coget, there are no female soldiers in the game because project leaders believe boys would find it unrealistic. But were women really unrealistic in World War 1? No!
Amandine Coget also wrote on Twitter that there are other (historically) unrealistic things, like the design of tanks or the malfunctions of early parachutes, that made it into the game. All this is “believable” for the core target group of boys, but not for women as soldiers. However, this particularly refers to the multiplayer mode of Battlefield 1. In the single-player campaign, a woman plays one of the main roles!
