Players with good stats in Battlefield 1 can be banned from the game. The anti-cheat system is currently having issues.
Good players don’t always have it easy in Battlefield 1 as one might think. With special skills in handling weapons, they can cause frustration on the opposing team; however, FairFight struggles with this issue. FairFight is the anti-cheating engine used in Battlefield 1 to quickly ban hackers. However, the tool sometimes has difficulty distinguishing good players from cheaters. Consequently, several players have been labeled as cheaters and banned from the game even though they were not using cheats.
Banned during the live stream
To detect cheaters, FairFight compares the stats of individual players to the average stats of other players at the same skill level. Additionally, the system checks for “impossible” or “extremely unlikely” events that wouldn’t occur without hacks.
As an example, it is noted on FairFight’s website: If it is technically impossible to kill or hit a player with a weapon from over 200 yards away. Together, the two functions of FairFight are supposed to ensure that cheaters are banned. If a player has particularly good stats during a match, the anti-cheat system apparently has problems distinguishing between cheaters and good players.
Reddit user oh_my_god_please_no was recently banned despite having over 2800 hours of gameplay in games using FairFight. During a Battlefield 1 match, he had good stats and was suddenly marked and banned as a cheater.
At that time, other good players who played without cheats were also banned. As an example, Reddit thread mentioned Minidoracat, who is currently ranked 4th in the world leaderboard. In December, Minidoracat was temporarily banned while streaming Battlefield 1.
Once marked and banned as a cheater, there is little chance of lifting the ban. However, the Reddit thread by oh_my_god_please_no gained so much attention that some DICE employees are now looking into the case.
