Players are not satisfied with the current settings of the Rent-A-Server system. The developers are already planning more options for private servers.
If you do not want to play on random servers in Battlefield 1, you now have the option to search for or rent private servers thanks to the latest Patch 1.04. On private servers, there are various options to customize the servers to your preferences. However, some players feel that the current options are not versatile enough, which is why they complained on Reddit. DICE responded regarding which features are already in development.
Battlefield 1 – Private Servers and Their Settings
On Reddit, the user GrowlmonDrgnbutt wrote a thread warning other players about the rent-a-server system. He said he rented a server for 7 days to find out if DICE/EA learned from past mistakes. However, he was disappointed with the available settings.
In a map rotation, only up to 6 maps can be at the same time.
There is also no ban list that allows admins to ban players from their own server. There is no banning feature for server admins neither within nor outside the game.
There is no server menu that would allow you to start the next map, kick players, or activate team balance.
A skill-based auto-balance cannot be disabled.
There is no player list outside the server showing how many/which players are on the server.
You cannot reserve server slots for yourself, admins, or VIPs.
Players cannot be appointed as admins because there are no admin rights on a server.
Percentage settings can only be made with fixed values. If you want to change the respawn time, you can choose between 50%, 100%, or 200%. However, you cannot enter your own percentage values but must use the ones provided by the game.
Specific weapons cannot be banned, only entire weapon types.
In summary, GrowlmonDrgnbutt is dissatisfied with the current server situation. In the comments to his thread, other users have not given up hope yet. The user Plopfish hopes that the developers just haven’t finished implementing the missing features like bans, admins, and in-game server settings. The response from DICE employee Striterax might please some players.
Developers Respond to Missing Features for Private Servers
Also on Reddit, Striterax from the DICE development team stated that they are aware of the missing features and are already working on additional settings. These include:
Admin control
VIP queue
Higher number of maps for the rotation
More targeted weapon bans
Banners for custom servers
Map voting
“Snipers only”
Moreover, further changes are already planned, as Striterax mentioned in his comment.
