Last weekend, fans of Gearbox organized a special “Battleborn Day” for the unfortunate hero shooter MOBA game Battleborn. In this unofficial event, as many players as possible were encouraged to try out the struggling game and veterans were there to assist new players. In percentage terms, it was a huge success…
Considering the pure percentage values, the first Battleborn Day was a great success. 77.25 percent growth in player numbers was recorded. So was the event a successful blow against the decline into obscurity of Gearbox’s hero shooter with MOBA elements?
Absolute numbers are brutal!
Unfortunately, the success of the Battleborn Day is significantly diminished when looking at the absolute numbers. On average, only 400 people play Battleborn per day. The peak number during the event was only 709 gamers, which did lead to the impressive 77.25 percent increase, but not to the desperately needed influx of players that a multiplayer game like Battleborn requires. Especially since the player numbers dropped back to the old averages of around 400 players after the event weekend.
Nevertheless, the action and the organizers deserve respect and recognition for achieving a (albeit modest) success for the game they hold dear. And who knows, perhaps more such actions in the future will lead to more players for Battleborn. It would truly be desirable for the unfortunate hero shooter and its small but loyal player base.
Jürgen says: I also hoped that the Battleborn Day would be a success, and when I first saw the infographic, I was already quite happy. But the absolute numbers were unfortunately not so great. Nevertheless, I think the fan event and Gearbox’s own contribution are good, and I hope that such actions continue. Battleborn certainly deserves more players!
