The launch of the MOBA Battleborn by Gearbox, the creators of the Borderlands franchise, is coming soon. It is set to be released in winter. This likely means the release will be in Q4 2015 or Q1 2016.
It was almost a year of silence about the “League of Legends meets Borderlands” game, then Gearbox returned two weeks ago, stating they would rock the E3 and now they have a teaser trailer that is truly impressive.
Battleborn will be a hybrid game that lies somewhere between MOBA and shooter, with an “intergalactic cast” of Bad-Asses, it is announced. The personnel was gathered under the following motto: “If you are cool and badass enough, we will make you a hero in our game.” Currently, there are expected to be about 25 of them.
Variety is ensured: Battleborn will launch with a solo mode and three multiplayer modes. Gearbox will also enable a split-screen, likely exclusively for the story mode.
The three multiplayer modes of Battleborn
The size of a multiplayer match can go up to a 5 vs. 5 player format.
The three modes are called:
- Incursion – Here, teams will defend their bases against AI minions and then aim to destroy the opponent’s stronghold.
- Devastation – a team deathmatch that requires fulfilling specific objectives.
- Meltdown – here players must protect their minions as they “march to their doom in the middle of the map.”
Battleborn will – similar to Heroes of the Storm – provide an experience and level system outside of the actual fights for the heroes and the commander, meaning the player themselves. The heroes will rank from level 1 to 10, and level-ups will unlock alternative skills or abilities. As the player themselves levels up, they will receive badges, loot, and other profile pictures.
Battleborn is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. At E3 in Los Angeles, Gearbox plans to announce more information about Battleborn.
